Outstanding G Lawrence wrapped around a M53
I was very lucky to have this drop into my lap, or onto my belt as it were. I was cruising the gun listings online of a shop a few hours away. They always carry cool guns. This holster popped into view and I bought it immediately. It is sized for the 6” S&W Model 53 (stamped 623). I’m guessing they didn’t make many of these. Some Lawrence catalogs also include the 6” Model 19 for fitment. Not sure what era it’s from, but no earlier than when the 53 debuted?
The holster model number is 24. F,C, and S denote Floral, Chamois lined, Sight protector. Wow does this holster reek of cool factor with these optional features. I took a photo of the sight protector location. Notice how deep it allows the revolver to sit in the holster before it butts up against the rear sight. The belt loop is plenty wide enough to slip over my Safariland elk suede lined gun belt. These belts were the finest made in my opinion.
My 53 is a first year gun. For all of you out there heavy into pre lock, pre mim S&W revolvers..... If you don’t have a 53 and are not actively searching for one, why the heck not? Just kidding, they are a niche item, but I sure do love mine.
Anyways, I have a new appreciation for Lawrence holsters, and this one is by far the nicest piece of leather I own.
(If this post sounds a bit like “look what I got”, it’s not meant as such. I post more or less to show folks what’s out there and pass along some tidbits of what to look for. Best of luck in all your searches.)
I noticed the first, third and fourth photo fell sideways. Anyone know how to fix that? The kids left me high and dry when they grew up and flew the coup.

Sheridan style carving. Nobody carved better than the guys at Lawrence.
Here is another good example of Lawrence carving. In a moment of
temporary insanity I sold it.

Very nice bigmoose. I have always had a theory that the plain Lawrence holsters, or ones with just a basketweave or floral carving option were likely bought as off the shelf items from well stocked retailers. When you start to see other options, like chamois lining, edge lacing and sight protectors those holsters were probably special ordered directly by the consumer, the guy who wanted something special and didn't mind waiting for it and paying a few extra bucks. That sure sounds like the pistolero who bought a first year Model 53.

That is fabulous. I'm always on the lookout for non-standard models like this one in great condition. One of these days ...
