Default Stubbie Leather

Been thinking about a leather holster with a thumb-break to use while working outdoors, maybe something such as a Lobo Model 5 or something similar for a 2" stub nose. I will be getting a thumb-break on whatever holster comes my way. Anyone care to share thoughts on this holster or another brand and model?

Holsters are a very personal item. What works for me might not work for you.

A holster loop like that one may allow the holster to move about some on your belt. A pancake style or an avenger style tens to anchor the holster a bit more. And yes, short barreled revolvers seem to ride better with some sort of retention device.

Question- Do you intend to carry this handgun open carry? If so, you might want to consider a full flap holster to afford some weather protection while you are outdoors. IrishFritz

Back in the day I always believed a holster MUST have a thumb break. With a proper boned and fitted holster, I have no longer found this to be true. Quality leather from makers like Sam Andrews, Ryan Grizzle, and a few others are made so meticulously that a thumb break just is not necessary.
My thoughts anyway.....

I agree. Thad is one of the best, if not the best, old time makers.
Here are a couple he has made for me.
On the left is a Tom Threepersons style with a "dog ear".
On the right is kind of a replica of Chic Gaylord's little speed scabbard.

Personally, I think the Lobo Gun Leather Model 5 is a fine holster design. I use one to carry a Model 29 while hunting and find it to be very comfortable and secure.

But I might be a little bit prejudiced since I created it about 40 years ago.

Contact Mark, Alathea, and Matt at Lobo Gun Leather. You won't find anyone more responsive to your needs or easy to do business with.

My thoughts anyway.....
+1 on Ryan Grizzle’s work. I have two of the same that you have pictured here, and in fact both can be seen on his website. I have them for 3” bbl’s and the retention is excellent.

I agree with Ray, who was Lobo Gunleather before retiring. Here are a
couple he made for me way back then.
#5 on the left with a "dog ear".
Tom Threeperson style on the right, also with "dog ear".
I have not had the opportunity to get a holster from the folks who Ray
sold to, but I'm sure they do good work if he says so.

Lobo Model 1 pancake with thumb-break.

ETA:

Here's my not so stubbie 686 in a Lobo Model 1 pancake. Couldn't be happier with the rig.

I carry my M66-1 2-1/2" snub in a Triple-K "Secret Agent" holster. It's inexpensive ($65), well made, has a thumb break, and the gun rides a little higher, for better concealment. Comes in black or a reddish-brown. I posted a picture of a brown one that I carry my M19-3 in for color comparison, but the one for my snub is black.

I've been wearing my Desantis thumb break scabbard to carry my J frame snubbies every day since the weather turned cold enough for sweatshirts. This week I spent two days doing extremely physical work on downed tree limbs while carrying my 642. Didn't even know it was there, and it's always secure. And the cost won't break the bank. I made a decision to buy much less stuff on Amazon starting last week, but I think from Amazon it was around $55. I've had it a couple years, After I wore it a while, I took it to a shoe repair shop and had the extra "low ride" front loop cut off. I only wear it in the high ride position. You'll see what I mean if you look at one on line.

EDIT - I just looked. They're in stock and on sale for less than $50 at Midway.

When we get back to tee shirt weather I'll be back to the Lobo offset belt clip. I just prefer OWB when possible.

My go to woods holster is a Bianchi 111 Cyclone cross-draw at about 10 O'Clock. Generally a 3" k-Frame .357.

Secure, the gun is in front of me, can be covered by a coat or vest and can get to it with either hand if necessary.
