Default Let’s see some flappers!

I have an uncontrollable urge to buy every nice flap holster I come across. I love how they protect a gun and let’s face it, the look and smell of fine leather is addictive.

So with all that background into my personal life, let’s see some! I’ll start with this Lawrence 14 C that my M18 ND rides around in. Plain Jane but it checks all the boxes for me!

This was made by a relatively new maker I stumbled across recently. I now have 4 holsters he has made. I have never had better quality even from well know custom makers at a MUCH higher price. The holster I posted was lined, and just a hair over $100 delivered, and it is beautiful.

He makes mostly range and field style holsters, with just a few concealment, but his work is as good an any I have EVER purchased and he is a good guy to work with.

If anyone is interested I will post a link to his etsy and facebook sites.

FYI - I have absolutely NO interest in his business other than I love to see younger folks than me carrying on the more traditional crafts. This man does excellent work.

Only have one "Flapper " currently...

1930s era Eubanks basketweave with latigo stitching, houses my 1920s era 1905 M&P 6". Both are in excellent condition.

Love seeing old holsters matched up with old revolvers from the same general era. So cool.

Me too. Always on the lookout but nicer examples from "the big name artists" like Heiser, OM Ball, Brill, etc are getting pricey.

Turnerriver ought to be along here soon to blow all of our socks off.

I’m just trying to draw him out of hiding!

Here’s another that gets some mileage - Bianchi 16L for a 6” K frame ....

And a Buffalo Brand (made by Heiser) for I believe an M41 5” ....

Wink Does half a flapper count?

This one is stamped S&A Guns and holds my M 65-3. I don't know anything about the maker. I like having the hammer fully covered, but with full access to the grips.

Agree, I wouldn't consider a full flapper for self defense purposes. For me, more of a squirrel hunting or woods walking/plinking scenario.

The flap holster is a big canvas for the carver.
This is a Myres swivel flap holster for a 4” Combat Masterpiece. Maybe parade duty for some Texas sheriff.

A Heiser fleece lined holster for the same revolver.

One of my favorites, this Heiser was made for a 4” kit gun.

I like the half flaps. Here is 3 shown in lawandorder's link to an old thread and another one from a few months ago.
3" K frame

4" K frame

4" N frame

And the 4" N frame full flap

Nice stuff!

I am reminded of an old John Wayne movie, "The Undefeated".

There is this scene - Col. Thomas is The Duke's character:

Col. John Henry Thomas: [Thomas and Langdon are talking to a bandit] Is the flap on your holster snapped or unsnapped, my Confederate friend?

Col. James Langdon: Snapped, my Yankee friend.

Col. John Henry Thomas: Then, I guess I'm his pigeon.
[Draws and fires as the bandit goes for his gun]
:

Sure enough y'all reminded me of that scene!!!!

I have a fondness for “Flappers” too. Here are some of mine both large and small, and plain or fancy.

Thanks and regards,
I will do that once my donation arrives and my account is updated. I don't have a hosting service set up so I was planning to post some here after that.

Anyone interested in either of these folks, feel free to PM me. A couple of people already have.

Just FYI - I don't typically go out of my way to promote someone unless I feel they are extraordinary in some way. These two relative young guys are really turning out top notch leather that rivals any Alessi, Sparks, DelFatti, etc. that I have purchased over the years... back when Alessi was still Lou, and Sparks was still Milt, etc. and EPS from last century... dang I feel old all of a sudden.

My absolute favorite flap holster is my Lawrence 100 Quick Release Flap for a S&W 41 with 5 1/2 bull barrel. The 100 Lawrence was only advertised as for revolvers ONLY. I am glad to have one of a very few made for a semi auto.

If a single flap is a good thing, what about a double flap holster ?
I don’t know what this is for but a long thin auto is a good bet. Made by Jos. Diekan, the only mention I’ve seen of him is in in Ed McGivern’s book.

I found this dark brown flap Heiser #435 Holster at a local gun shop. I hoped that it would fit my Ruger 45 APC SR1911 but because it was made for a 1911A1 it was too small because of the higher sights and extended grip safety on the Ruger. Of course I am very happy with my Ruger Sights and extended grip safety extension on my 45 ACP. I may find a 1911A1 but it may also work for a smaller other pistol.

Nice little custom job the late Vic Perez made for me. It's a copy of the German Larson for a Walther PP. Perfect for my .22 Walther PP. It's gotten a lot of use on my South TX hunts.

Here is a made in Hungary flap holster probably made for the 9 x 18 Makarov Pistol. Inside provision for 2 magazines.

I am guessing this flap holster marked only 200 32 3 would qualify.
It is holding a H D H made in Liege, Belgium 32 short colt Constabulary revolver but also fits other 3" 32 revolvers like this 1 1/2 S&W.

Holster came with well used 4 in M28, that appeared to have been stored in the holster for quite some time.

Added another lined Bianchi 16L to the group yesterday. Perfect spot for a 17 ND!

I've got a couple worth sharing. Here is one for a Southpaw made by Ray Sullivan's in Tampa. I believe they are the same guys that made Randall knife sheaths. It's for a 6.5" N Frame - perfect for my pre-war .38-44 Outdoorsman, although it feels almost as heavy as the gun:

Here's one for a J P Sauer & Sohn M1913 in .32ACP. I found the holster & gun in the used gun section of a Gander Mountain maybe 10-15 years ago. It was sitting next to another old Auto in .25ACP that I probably should have bought too. I don't remember what brand the .25ACP was, but it was a big gun for such a tiny caliber. Both were priced at $99.99 each. The salesman told me they were both sold by a family member of a veteran that brought them back from Germany with him:

Here’s a Heiser that fits this Outdoorsman.

This Heiser shoulder holster has a chrome tanned flap to keep your sweaty underarm off your revolver.

Regards,

I only have 3 "flappers". All military.

-20210127_144828-jpg

Letf to right:

Portuguese for M943 pistol(Luger P.08).

Russian for T33 Tokarev pistol.

Swedish for m/907 pistol(FN 1903/Husqvarna).

Edit. Actually I have 4 but only because I have 2 Portuguese Luger holsters

Talking And...

The respective "stuffing".

Edit. Almost forgot. Since the Luger is local and came almost direct from people who owned it as service pistol. It came complete with loading tool cleaning rod and extra magazine.

This is my favorite “flapper”, a Eubanks flap holster for a S&W .44 6 1/2”. I happen to have one of those and it fits perfectly. Bill

I bought this 1st Model Safety Hammerless and it came with this holster. Pistol was made in 1887 and the holster looks to be about the same age! All the holster says on the back is:

27
38
3 1/4
