Forehand & Wadsworth side hammer revolver. This is a 22 caliber rim fire, seven shot SA revolver with hammer mounted externally on the right side of the frame. It has a spur trigger, 2 3/8th inch octagon barrel and bird’s head walnut grips. This gun has a release lever under the cylinder pin, which allows for the removal of the cylinder for loading and unloading. This gun was made circa 1870 with a quantity of about 1000. It has it's rare nickel finish showing normal wear.
Overall condition is NRA antique VG plus, with the exception of the cylinder pin being rounded off. It works well and the bore is still very good with sharp rifling. I have fired it with CB caps.
This gun is virtually identical to the Ethan Allen & Co. (eighth issue) side hammer 22 caliber with the exceptions of the barrel markings denoting the manufacturer and the patent dates.
