Offered for sale is a nice, numbers matching (including grips) Baby Chief. Serial no. 26177 places the date of manufacture at 1950 I believe. I recently purchased the gun from another Forum member and have decided to sell it. When held in the right light & at certain angles, there is a little splotchiness in the bluing on the cylinder and some blue wear on the side plate. You have to look hard to see these flaws, but they are there. Otherwise, the bluing is strong and the grips are super nice. Offered at $575 ….now $550 shipped. Is this an I-frame or a J-frame?

As I understand it, a Baby Chiefs Special is an early variation of the Pre-Model 36. It is a J frame gun, but with shorter grips & grip frame from the I frame, with a half round front sight blade or ramped front sight and a more rounded trigger guard. See p. 150 of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Edition
