I purchased this only 2 days ago and have not yet shot it, but I've made too many commitments and it's gotta go now.
SMITH & WESSON MODEL 1917, BRAZILIAN CONTRACT 1937.
The model 1917 is an adaptation of the S&W 2nd model hand ejector modified to fire 45 ACP for use by US soldiers at a time when not enough M1911s could be manufactured to meet demand. The weapon utilizes full or half moon clips to allow for use of the rimless cartridge- it can be used without moon clips but fired casings are more difficult to extract, 45 auto rims can also be used.
In 1937 Brazil ordered 25,000 of the model 1917 to equip their army.
- Imported by Century Arms in St. Albans VT.
- Reblued, but I don't know when or by whom. Whoever did the reblue they did a good job. A few scratches that the pictures really accentuate. The cylinder has a plum kind of color.
- Bore is in good.
- Lock up is tight
- Non original wood grips.
Will include 13 moon clips(of the plastic variety), pachmayr grips, lee shell holders.
