Hi guys, I need to thin the herd. I've had this one for almost 4 years. It is really nice and I should probably keep it. But, I also have some modern 617s that I shoot and they are easier to upkeep being stainless.
What attracted me to this gun was the excellent double action trigger pull. Its smooth and not too heavy. As you know, a lot of the S&W 22 revolvers come with a pretty heavy double action pull to make sure the primer in the rim of the case goes off. If you shoot double action then this usually means that a trigger job / spring change is necessary to get a nice feel. This one doesn't need a trigger job and I never had any issues with ignition.
I purchased it from a prolific S&W collector that lives in Honolulu. He always has some nice ones at the gun show. If the trigger is nice then I have a hard time resisting.
I'm not sure the story on the smooth grips. I don't know if they came from the factory like that or if the previous owner sanded them down. Either way, they feel good in the hand. I'm selling it because I prefer longer barrels and its not getting any range time.
Update on the grips. I was contacted a while back from another member who wanted to buy the grips for his model 18. He said they were factory original smooth grips. I don't know enough about the grips to verify that. But, the fact that he wanted to buy them says something...
It functions perfectly, lock up, timing, accuracy, etc. is all excellent. I have not shot it since 2013 or 2014 and didn't put many rounds through it. Very, very nice. This one has been shot but I don't think it has a lot of rounds through...light turn line.
Professionally, I own and operate two dementia care homes on Oahu. I have 300 positive feedback on Ebay and recently sold some guns on Gunbroker (my username is daveinhi on both sites).
I will be shipping the gun directly to your FFL. So, I will need a copy of the FFL you are using before shipping.
