Smith & Wesson Model 24-3, .44 Special, 6-½ Blue. This is a lovely revolver in absolutely tip-top condition. It looks as if it has mainly been dry fired because there is virtually no wear other than the cylinder turn-line. There is no sign that it has ever been in a holster and the front of the cylinder has minute residue at every other chamber like the factory test fired guns have. I would never say it was unfired" but can honestly say that there is no sign of firing except for the traces on the front of the cylinder.
The bottom of the grip does have some idiot type marks as if it was used to crack walnuts and not to drive nails.
It comes with the original box that unfortunately got wet on one side and is not in great condition. Fortunately the gun Did Not get wet!
I really like these 24-3 revolvers because the typify the best of the pre-1950 Target revolvers yet have the modern steels and high polish bluing when the factory still knew how to correctly polish without dished holes or rounded edges.
They had 10-groove fine line serrated front and backstraps with Goncalo Aves Target stocks. They have .265 serrated Target trigger and a .500 checkered Target hammer with a 1/8 Patridge front sight and a micrometer adjustable rear sight. They also have a shrouded extractor rod like the magnum revolvers.
This ABZ prefixed serial number was shipped in November 1983.
The M-24-3 was introduced in 1983 with 4875 reported manufactured with 6-1/2 barrel. This was after the Model 29 .44 Magnum was available and the .44 Specials were not initially very popular with the buying public and therefor were slow sellers. They can be found in very fine condition as is this revolver. I have another 6 ½ and a 4 that I shoot and enjoy.
