As with several other guns I've sold here in recent months, the pictures are mediocre -don't have adequate equipment or the funds to buy it. I will give you the best, most accurate description I can offer so as to leave you with the correct impression. Please ask questions by PM if need be.
Features:
-target hammer, trigger, and grips
-Patridge front sight
-the typical 6" barrel
-case colored trigger and hammer; attractive but not spectacular
Description:
-Standard Catalog of S&W estimates mfg. date of 1971.
-very little use; I'm guessing I have put less than a hundred rounds through it in the roughly 15 years I've had it; previous owner(s) couldn't have fired it much either, by the looks of it.
-deep blue finish; looks almost as good to me as Colt's old Royal Blue finish
-I can see no signs of wear in the bluing in the typical places -muzzle, sides of muzzle, front corners of cylinder, etc.; however is thinned a bit on front end of ejector rod
-With the exception of one small mark stupidly made by yours truly beneath the yoke screw, and the typical wear marks where moving parts rub together(top & bottom of yoke at points contacting frame, center pin on recoil shield, cylinder drag line), I can see no marks on the metal of this gun -looks like it was just shipped from the factory(Of course I could have missed some barely noticeable ones).
-stored in climate controlled conditions and coated with excellent protectant oil; can't find any rust -even beneath the grip panels.(NOTE: Any apparent smudges or streaks in the pictures are caused by the protectant oil I use or by peculiar light patterns, and are not imperfections in the finish.)
-Cylinder drag line is visible but not that noticeable in my view
-Smooth target grips are the best pair I've ever owned. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder -well, this beholder regards these as little short of stunning(a gloss oil finish is all that they lack to make them so). They also fit better than any I've had -an almost perfect alignment with the backstrap, a near-perfect mating of the panels all the way around, and no reaming of the bottom holes from careless removal.(NOTE: There are a few scuffs in the finish of the grip panels on the butt -see picture below of gun upside down)
A possible negative:
-The groups I fired with this gun were less than stellar, which could have been due to the fact that: 1)I'm too picky; 2)I only used two different brands of ammo to test it -both of the cheaper bulk variety; 3)the single action trigger pull is a little heavy/sticky, possibly affecting sight alignment upon release; and/or 4)there looks like a small bit of brass on one of the lands and/or grooves at the muzzle -should be fairly easily removable; I just never got the job done.
Terms:
-As forum rules dictate, a buyer needs to respond with an "I'll take it", and follow up with a PM
-Payment options: USPS MO, Bank/Cashier's check, or personal check from someone with whom I've dealt before, long-time respected members of the forum, an SWCA member, or someone who can point to good feedback on the forum or elsewhere, etc. I'll decide of course in the latter case.
-gun is priced at $775, shipped and insured, after an extensive review of completed GB auctions
