Default SPF PPC Bob Jones SW 15-3

SPF

Texas

I said I would never get rid of this but never say never. Action on this piece is a work of art. Part of me wants to find a 3" or 4" barrel, round the butt and call it good. I am too heavy with K and L frames.

I bought this piece from GunBroker mid to late 2000s. It had a small OD gunsmith round barrel (Cheshire & Perez) with the current Aristocrat tri-sight rib. The revolver (SW 15-3 #K84xxxx) showed use and handling marks but was solid. I was told most hard use police revolvers back then were preferred to set up for PPC as your were not tearing into a "clean" revolver.

I sent it to Bob Jones for action job, charge hole chamfering, removed serrations off trigger for PPC use. Action is perfect in my opinion as I was getting used to shooting the 150 round matches.

Everyone around me had big ol fat barrels and a buddy shooter said to send it back to Bob Jones for his barrel. $800 later, I was sporting a BIG ROUND BARREL. While it shot good, I did not like the balance of the HEAVY barrel and Jones had already stopped taking work.

here are images of the heavy round barrel. sorry... net the best (2014)

I was having issues as I could not find the balance (especially at 50 yards). Since Jones was no longer taking any work, I called up Frank Glenn. Glenn slabside the barrel and it was balanced to my liking.

Before any barrel weight loss occurred, I took it to a local engraver who studied and measured the original Bob Jones engraving on the big round barrel. When I got the revolver back from Glenn, the engraver returned the barrel engraving to very close if not a match to the original.

That was late 2014 early 2015. As luck would have it, I got injured and never returned to the PPC game. It was a good 3 hour drive one way, a good friend who ran the range retired and move further up north and never the same post knee surgery. The revolver has been asleep since then till I recently went out and sandbagged it.

While I would like to keep it, I have too many other K/L frames and this one will likely never be shot.

I will add more pics later or you can contact via PM.

I doubt the barrel has a couple of hundred rounds through it since the 2014 install. The barrel and install alone was $800 in 2014. The only rounds through this barrel was swaged 148 HBWC at target velocities.

The revolver frame shows use, handling and marks, but this action and timing is damn near perfect. Jones did tap a allen set screw for the strain screw, that way if you needed to back out or tighten the strain screw to make match trigger weight specs... it could be done without the strain screw backing out while shooting. I also saved the Bob Jones paperwork but for the life of me cannot locate it. I recall placing it in a envelope, marking it and putting it somewhere. I moved in 2017, and I hope its still just hiding from me.

$800 shipped FFL to FFL
$750 F2F where I live
I know PPC is still popular on the west coast or states that might have red tape. While I dont want any hassle, if you talk me through, it meets your state requirements.... I would definitely consider.

Post an I will take it and follow up with a PM. More pics to come or just ask via PM.

The only trade I would be interested in, and I am very picky....
Marlin 1894 CSBL .357 lever 16" or Marlin 1894 SBL .44 lever 16"
Both these lever guns fall into the Remlin years and have quality issues. I know what areas to check and would ask for clear pics of those areas. I am not interested in any other piece right now.

TFL

I did run 6 rounds through the PPC (sandbagged) at roughly 30 yards. Hell I forgot the 3 settings and my first shot was off the target at 6 o'clock. Ok, changed the tri rear to another setting and shot the remaining 5 rounds. My eyes aint what they used to be and I aimed at the bottom of the diamond and did my best to keep the sights at the same place every time. After I shot this group, I realized my setting was still not in the right spot as the group went high. Hell, I done forgot the settings at distances for the tri rear sight. OUCH
