*&%$### coyotes got my dog
this morning.
We usually let him out whiel we sit on the back porch and watch the sun come up and drink our coffee. Done that every monring for a year and a half.
He makes his round usually within 50-60 yards of the house, pee's on every tree, bush, 4 wheeler tire,....... and then comes back to the back porch and sits between my feet.
This morning a pack of coyotes got him and he wasn't but about 50 yards from me. There will be hell to pay for them coming in my yard to get him.
Smartest and most loving little dog I've ever seen. Gonna be tuff getting used to him not being under my feet or in my lap.
His name was Dude....... and boy was he.

I just lost my best friend Tuesday, so I know the feeling of loss that you are dealing with right now. I hate yotes anyway, so get all that you can. I hope that you can get the ones responsible for the loss of Dude. At one point here, that was something I was worying about. The yotes are starting to come into the edges of town, and I have had some trapped off my propety.
I feel for you, and my thoughts will be with you. May God comfort you as well.

There used to be a bounty on them here in MI when I was a youngster. Now that it's been gone for a while, the coyotes are running rampant. If you can, leg trap one, then leave it there to attract others. The trappers that came here used that method quite effectively.

Sorry to hear of this, Senior Citizen. I have an old dog (she is 16) that I let out unsupervised for a few minutes every morning as I get ready for work. These last few months, I have had an odd feeling that this was not such a good idea, for some reason - nothing that I can explain. Anyway, your post may have helped me to avoid a similar tragedy. We have a few coyotes around here. I need to be a bit more careful with my old friend. Thanks, and once again, sorry to hear of your loss of Dude.

I am sorry to hear that about your dog.
I hate 'yotes also, which is why I hunt them year round. Some people only hunt in the winter for fur, I hunt to kill them. We had some get into our school farm when I was in high school. It was pretty ugly.
I would recommend a 12gauge with a Carlsons Dead Coyote choke and some Hevi-Shot Dead Coyote Shot shells in size "T" shot.
Tht will be very effective out to about 70 yds or so.
If I were close I would be more than happy to help you.

Coyotes got my little Chiuhaha about a year ago, then a few weeks later I heard this awful squealing sound and I went outside and a big Coyote was on top of my 14 year old Scottish Terrier. We live in the city and that was at 8:30 in the morning! A couple hundred bucks in vet bills later and the Scottie was O.K., but I will remember that "death squeal" sound for the rest of my life. They don't allow discharging firearms in the city limits, but a big Yote later walked through the back of my yard and I just happend to have some 20 gauge Number 3 buckshot handy and I was not in a friendly mood! It folded him up like a well used Kleenex!

Sorry about what happened to your "Dude". Coyotes run in packs around here, they're used to people and show no fear whatsoever. After 3 coyotes tore up my neighbors 100+ pound black lab I stand guard while my dog does his "business". Max is old, blind and slow so he wouldn't stand a chance...

I hate to here about your loss. That would be a really bad way to go being hunted by a pack of coyotes. I hope you didn't witness him being killed that way. I don't let mine out unless I'm with him. I hope you find another companion but dude can't ever be replace. Nice toddler also looks happy.

R. Walter is a typical coward. He is brave sitting behind his keyboard. I hope he is gone for good. We don't need idiots like him here. We have enough enemies on the outside, and in the government. To post something that cruel and thoughtless is inexcusable!
Senior Citizen- I am so sorry for your loss, and even more sorry that you had to be attacked like that publicly, by an ignorant fool.

Condolences on the loss of your pal. Coyotes consider any smaller animal fair game. We have one small dog, a Boston Terrier, and thank God we have a tall fence where he roams in our back yard, 'cause coyotes are all over the place, us being near the desert. I suspect our PB would protect him, though. I can't imagine your pain. It's hard to lose a loved dog from old age, but before its time in such a manner, that's really awful. Again, so sorry for you and your family. What a gut-wrenching experience for you all.

Thanks to all the kindness to animals there are coyotes running through the city near me as well, And the "No discharging of firearms" is handing the pets over to the coyotes, Last year I lost 20+ chickens to foxes.....
Times sure have changed.
I AM sorry for your loss and hope that we all remember that our pets are our friends as well as our family, And we should be able to protect them as we would a loved one ! ! !
If we can help, Please let us know!
I now have a tripod 4' inside my window and a .22 on the wall.......
You're a good man Senior citizen
Thanks for your help many months ago.
What can I do for you?
Peter

Peter, thanks for your kind words. Glad I was able to help you then, just as you are/have helped me today.
Guys, don't get too involved with R Walter. Without the bad there is no judgment for good. Folks like that make most of us appear civil and decent.
I've never been a fan of the ignore button. If I don't know I'm ignoring the person, I don't get to enjoy it as much. ;-)
It's gonna be alright........one day.
Thanks again...all

SC,
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Just looking at his pictures shows the intelligence, sweetness and joy he had.
Time will heal the hurt but not the memories. May eventually you only be able to smile and think of all the good ones. I also hope another of God's special creations comes to brighten your life and give you the joy that only comes from a great dog!
Happy hunting with the coyotes too. If I catch one slipping around on our deer lease this fall I'll drop it in memory of your sweet little dog.

I can't walk my small dogs because of Pit Bulls that are turned loose or wander off from Chicago or Gary. My little dogs mean so much to me that I can imagine what your feeling. I had 2 dogs die last year and I cried like a baby. We've got few Coyotes around, the dog packs kill them.

SC, sorry for the loss of your friend. Dogs have a way of looking right into your soul and liking what they see so much that they will become your best friend.
I am not sure what state you are from, but my local animal control considers yotes vermin, and shoot on sight, do not call animal control.
There are other control measures that are cheap and effective, if you need more ideas, please PM me and I will pass them along to you.
Please stay safe, sometimes the coyotes crossbreed and the resulting animals are big and viscious.
