Craigslist???
Do you buy and/or sell on your local Craigslist?
Is it a productive means of getting rid of some clutter/stuff?
How high is the flake factor on these types of lists? Lots of no shows, missed appointments, stringing deals out?
Thanks

I don't know what the exact percentage of "no-shows" would be, but I have always ended up selling the stuff I listed.

Craigslist
I have had great success with my purchases on Craigslist. I also listed a very nice fishing boat which sold to the first interested individual.

No-Shows?
A few, but I always sell my items.

I have tried to buy several things, and after being told that they would hold it till I got there, being told that it has been sold. And this is with phone contact several times. One trip was a pretty good drive. I am done with it.
I guess that it is a reflection of the society that we live in now.

It's free, but caution is highly warranted. If you have a real deal offered, people will beat down your door to get to it first. I've had some success, and some stuff sit listed seemingly forever. I get about one scam email per week off listings, from persons who obviously do not use English as a main language. The other scams are people who want to "help" you, because they assume you must be in financial trouble if you are selling things.

I have sold boats, trucks, furniture, and other misc junk on CL. I have only had a few no shows. I tell them at the start that if they are late without a call to me that I am moving on.
Last month I sold my truck for high bluebook in the first hour. After the title was signed over, I asked the man if perhaps I had under priced it. He said no, that his wife was looking at the site when I posted and called him on his cell phone because it was exactly what he had been looking for.
I usually arrange a meeting in a nearby store lot during busy times for security. Yes there are lots of replies from folks that want to buy sight unseen, sending you a large check to ship and trusting you to send the difference back. Delete these immediately.

I sold a welder and a metal lathe on our local Craigslist. I have a bunch of books I'm going to list on there when I get around to it...no gun books...I'd give you guys first crack at those.

Going to look at a set of tires for my Jeep tomorrow. $100 for 5 on the rims!! Yeah there is some decent deals to be had on there.

Craigslist
I just recently bought a 4 wheeler on Craigslist. No problems whatsoever, great deal. But there are a lot of scams and you better be careful.

Picked up a 6X10 trailer listed there and could not be happier. Local new was 2X the price. It was better than the description listed.

There are def some deals to be had. I would say the flake factor is pretty high, especially on the personals posting. I have managed to sell and buy from craigslist. It is what it is.

I've only sold...and with great success. 1 Harley, the wife's Yamaha and a camper top. No more flakes than E-bay or the classifieds.

I've had a boat, reloader and a bow on for a month now at what I think are good prices. The only responses have been scams.

I have bought and sold both on CL many times. I rate it tops. Caveats the usual, of course. I find the secret to good sales is a well written ad and good pictures. Many times I include some kind of statement like don't waste my time and I'll not waste yours. Seems to work very well and no serious person takes wrong.

Are those real posts form craigslist?? I've used it for both buying and selling but have never looked at the personals. I have used Freecycle when i want to get rid of stuff I don't use that isn't worth craigslist. I have had more hassle and no shows with people on freecycle than on craigslist.

you'll have some no shows, however it's free advertising; you can't go wrong.

I've bought 3 motorcycles and 5 cars off craigslist. All of 'em pretty solid transactions. I've also sold 2 motorcycles and 2 cars on there without a hitch. Currently keeping an eye out for a decent Sax cheap in my area. It's a great tool if you use it appropriately.
