Laser bore sighter left in bore.. BOOM
saw a guy do this at the range today.
It was not pretty and luckily no one was hurt or killed
A section of the barrel was found by my friend about 10 to 12 inches long very sharp on one end. Not sure of the rifle make but the barrel section found by my buddy had S.A and an ordnance symbol on it.

A friend of mine did that with a 22 a few months back, ran 30 rounds through it before he figured something wasn't right. Lucky for me I was able to combine the barrel after beating the end of it with a hammer with a Thompson stock with a piece of black locust for a handle and made a pretty neat cane haven't really taken it for a stroll around the neighborhood yet cause it does kind of look like one of those dirty old black guns. Thanks Larry

Perhaps a little Flitz??
Some folks around here have been known to blame the manufacture for a problem like that and demand a new gun as it was defective.

I have no doubt that someone, somewhere has instituted an action against the manufacturer of a laser boresighter for the product being "defective" or "unsafe" in that it cannot be seen readily by a shooter holding the rifle or handgun and sighting the weapon in the normal manner.
We'll know that such an action was successful when:
1) Laser boresighters have 2" or 3" day-glo colored "collars" permanently attached, with a groove or section cut out as clearance for the iron sights or scope.
2) Recall notices start appearing in the trade rags.

How could they blame the gun mfg? Anyone with a brain knows it's the fault of the bore sight mfg!

I think I would prefer a more professional fix... a dab or two of JB Weld should do it.

I haven't seen one of the 1/4 page adds from an attorney for a class action suit appear in any of the Sunday magazines yet.

Was dove hunting with a fellow about 25 years ago on a muddy field. After he shot a bird, he leaned over to pick it up, not realizing he had plugged his barrel in the mud. Needless to say, after the next shot, it had that peeled banana look.

Up on the wall at the Springfield Armory National Historic Site there's a Garand with the barrel peeled back almost to the receiver, and nothing else forward of the receiver. Some sad sack fired a rifle grenade with a ball round. He wasn't injured.
