!!HOLY COW!!

I believe my dad and I were right there!

My dad pointed Ali out and I wanted to get his autograph but my dad told me not to bother anyone when they were talking to someone else. I wonder if you were that someone else...
Our ride got there before the (your?) conversation was finished, so I never did get his autograph.

How often would one think that Ali would be hanging out at O'Hare???

Small world?

I guess I live a very boring life. Other than a few baseball players who was playing for the Cleveland Indians (pre-1982), no none.

I did get to be 5 feet away from Ronald Reagan at his first stop on his re-election tour at BGSU, but I didn't get to talk to him.

I guess I'm just waiting to meet Jesus after I leave this world. Can't think of anybody more important that He is!

Probably Bill Clinton (I don't always like to admit that) or Henry Kissinger. Sen. Alan Simpson is a good friend. Met Dick Cheney a couple of times. Spent an hour on the phone with Carlos Hathcock one time. There have been some others, but those are the people that come to mind first.

I had the opportunity to 1:1 interview George HW Bush (the senior) for my university newspaper when he was in town. He was a Texas Congressman at the time and was incredibly gracious to a bumbling student with his time and attention.

He had a busy schedule and worked me into a time to meet him at his hotel room where he helped me come up with good questions to ask him. I've been a fan ever since.

Taking a 180 degree turn... I also met Jean Paul Gaultier sitting next to me in a Paris restaurant. He's obviously a very famous French fashion designer, but is most famous (in my mind) for designing Madonna's "cone bra and corset".

Were you still there when Veronica Porsche, his girlfriend at the time, walked out of baggage with her entourage. I believe she was also quite pregnant at the time.
Small world.

As a kid I once met Ronald McDonald. He was pretty famous for a while but I've heard he recently was downsized.

Nope - I guess we left before she got there - In fact, I've never heard of her.

Met Sam Walton at the WalMart in DeSoto, TX once. He wanted to know if I was the manager of that department. I said, no, that would be this young lady. When he looked at her I thought she was going to wet her pants.

Lee Trevino and Jack Niclaus in Troon Scotland at The Open during the 70's and John Daly at St Andrews in a bar, he was a lot of fun.
Dan Marino and VJ Singh at Sawgrass while we were playing a round of golf.
My personal favourite is Gene Simmons, you got the impression that when you were speaking with him he did not just want to run off like some of the other rock stars I have spoken too, he was a really nice guy

John Lithgow and the guy who played "Raptor Man" in Full Metal Jacket.......I was working the food stand at an amusement park on Long Beach Island, NJ. On seperate days, both of them bought food from me....I think Raptor Man had onion rings, I forget what John Lithgow ordered

I didn't know it was John Lithgow at first, but not many guys look like John Lithgow and he was known to have a summer house in the big buck section of LBI. It's not like John Lithgow is gonna get mobbed by people walking around an amusement park, I doubt many people even know who he is anymore.

When Raptor Man came up, ironically I had just watched the movie a few days prior, so I was like "hey, Raptor Man!" as I gave him his onion rings and he just smirked and walked away, probably glad someone recognized him.

I know, pretty weak, I guess I never got a chance to "rub elbows" with any big time celebrities.

I knew a guy who had Peter Weller as a professor at Syracuse University, apparently RoboCop is a real smart guy and he's a PhD or some such.

Also dated a girl who's ex-boyfriend was Danzig's son......I guess I didn't meet him, but we both "shared" the same thing

Writers

Donald Hamilton--Liked my book and quoted some of his favorite parts.
Mickey Spillane--Ditto the above.
Hunter S. Thompson--Many times, in Aspen. Kind of a jerk to almost everybody, almost all the time, as far as I could tell. Somebody pointed out the section in UC about the Woody Creek Tavern and him and he was nice to me the last time I saw him, shortly before he shot himself.

Bobby Allison--Rode a ski lift with him in 1980 and I told him I thought it was a hoot when he told Car&Driver magazine (in the mid-'70s) he thought Porsches were "just $12,000 imported Corvairs." He slapped me on the back and said, "Man, I got **** for that for a LONG time!"
Curtis Turner--Friend of my uncle. Met him after he put Smokey Yunick's Chevelle on the pole at over 180 MPH (new record) at Daytona in 1967. Tech inspectors gave him a two page list of things the car needed before it could race. IIRC the first one was "Change the frame"...
Lance Reventlow--Met him on a ski lift in March 1969 and we spent the day skiing together, having lunch, and talking about his Scarabs and sports car racing in general. We'd get together on my subsequent ski trips to Aspen but he was killed in a plane crash in July of 1972. Great guy.
John Heinracy--Personal friend
Willie Borsch--When I was a kid in the '60s, I saw him asleep in the pits at the Alton Dragway when the deafening nitro rails were running. I thought he'd had a heart attack or something. Got the ambulance crew and when Willie woke up and found out what I had done he was laughing so hard he was crying. Willie had narcolepsy, and could sleep through ANYTHING. He had qualified (in his Fuel Altered!) for the Top Fuel (dragster) field but the dragster guys refused to race him (afraid his car would hit them) so he was taking a nap. He bought me a hot dog and let me sit in the Wingfoot Express. Great guy. Died of cancer a few years ago.
Bill Jenkins
Don Garlits
Smokey Yunick--Told me some great stories about stock car cheating.
Junior Johnson--Shook his hand and listened to him tell stories, but I didn't talk to him. Great guy.

Ricky Graham
Neil Keen

EJ Potter, the "Michigan Madman"--My hero and the reason I built a V8 motorcycle. He told me I'd done a good job when he saw it. His book is fascinating.

Cindy Crawford--I was with my 14-year-old daughter in Aspen in 2007 when she spotted a pretty brunette with two little kids. She suggested I go invite them over for pizza and offered to keep the kids occupied while I chatted up the mother. The pretty brunette was Cindy Crawford. Great person.

Playboy Playmates

People came up to her for autographs all throughout dinner. During dessert I opened my briefcase and pulled out the May 1971 Playboy and opened it to her centerfold for her to sign. She about fainted and the rest of the table howled. Great person.

Penthouse Pets

Gina LaMarca--At a nightclub. Fun person and a great kisser.

Ashlyn Gere--Classmate at UNLV of a St. Louis friend. Smart and fun.
Kayden Kross--Good friend of Mike South. Delightful person and drop-dead gorgeous.
Amanda Emino--Personal friend. See below. (Photo cropped because she was wearing a sexy evening dress that night and I don't want Lee to give me another warning...)

Royalty

Prince Albert of Monaco--Personal friend who went to college and sang in the Glee Club with me.
Prince Ranier of Monaco--Albert's dad. Dozed off a lot, at least when I was around...
Princess Stephanie--Albert's little sister. She was 14 when I met her, and very shy. She made up for that later...

And I saved the BEST for last......GRACE KELLY! Albert's Mom. The most gracious and enchanting woman I have ever met. She made you feel like the most important person in the room. Dancing with her for about 20 minutes at a formal dinner is one of the high points of my life.

I've met Dave Keith and Keith Brown. They should count on this board! And as stated earlier, Lee Jarret and Charlie Sherrill. I prefer guys I know are good guys, not famous ones the news media likes or hates.

Sam Elliott several years ago. He's as laid back in real life as he is on the big screen. Real nice guy.

Ernest Borgnine too. He isn't as tall as I thought he was.

Met Anthony Quinn in the airport in Las Vegas.
I was riding along on my day off with a Nevada Highway patrolman. He clocked a Porshe flying down the highway and
pulled it over. Turned out it was Flip Wilson. My friend told me he wanted to ask him to "say something funny" but he thought better of it. So he just got his autograph on the ticket. Clerow Wilson or something like that.

Now do they have to have been famous at the time you met then or could they have become famous later?

Actors
Any Garcia in high school and college
Steven Bauer high school and college

Music
Gloria Estefan high school
Emilio Estefan music interest after school

Playboy turned porn star
Teri Weigel dated for a little while in 1980

Nimfo & cop husband
Jeff and Kathy Willets I worked with Jeff on a special assingment

And about a 100 that were already famous when I met them.

Dasnake and DWfan who used to post a lot on this board. Met them at a SWCA annual convention when it was held in SLC a few years ago. Chauffeured them around to a gun store then a restaurant. Salts of the earth.

(Now I need to meet Sipowitz)

I went to high school with Darrien Gorden (NFL player) and college with Kristin Chenowith. Neither were famous then.

A scale model of that, the "Moving Memorial" made a stop in my town last summer; very emotional.

Chatted with Andy Williams once in the chow line at a hotel in Nashville. He was there to film an appearence on the Statler Brothers Show. Really seemed like a nice guy. Had the priviledge of sitting down to coffee with Keneth Tobey who started in the 1951 movie, "The Thing" once for a nice long talk about the movie. Just a regular guy, super nice and very humble. He had red hair which you couldn't see in the old black and white movies.

Let's see... almost got tripped by Rep. Joe Wilson (the 'YOU LIE!" guy), bumped into Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus during breakfast, got bodychecked by Gen. Raymond Odierno at a House Armed Services Committee meeting when he announced the plans to start pulling troops out of Iraq, went to the restroom with Rep. Barney Frank in the next stall, got dirty looks from the entire House Homeland Security Committe for coming in late and spent the day with former Rep. Eric Massa (the tickling congressman)... all in the same day. Damn, my feet hurt after that .

I'm guessing he "kicked out the jams....blankety, blanketies".

That would make him Rob Tyner of the fabulous MC5 (Motor City 5), sadly no longer with us.

Give that man a ceegar.
Yes sir, Rob Tyner of the MC5. I was 16 when we met in 1987. I worked as a counter jockey at my BIL's ice cream shop in Berkely MI. where he resided when Mr. Tyner strolled in for a cool dip. I recognized him right away (that hair)
Being a huge fan of both the MC5 and their sister band The Stooges, I had to pick his brain a little about some of his bands and Iggy's exploits. He was a very laid back and extremely friendly guy, and became a bit of a regular there.
I moved out west at 18 and was out of state when I heard of his death. Sad day.

Met the Duke in 1968 when he was filming "Hellfighters" in my hometown. Also met Bob Hope and got to escort Ann Margaret when they did a Christmas Show at Osan AB, Korea in 1970. Vice President Spiro Agnew when he visited Korea in 1971. Clint Eastwood in the early 80's when friends and I were visiting Burbank Studios. We were walking and talking and a couple of us bumped into him.

About 1971 in March I was in Aspen looking for a birthday present for Mom. I went into a specialty store called Terese David. It was owned by a woman of the same name, one of those lean, leathery, middle-aged women who air-kiss everybody and pretend to be delighted to see them. Terese was talking to a female friend behind the counter when a big guy walked in the store. He looked around for a bit and when there was a pause in the two women's conversation, nodded at Terese and said, "Hey, Terese. Good to see you. How have you been?"

"Oh, just great! Good to see you back in Aspen!" she replied. He browsed for another minute and then left the shop. Terese turned to her friend and said "I see that guy in here whenever he comes to town, but I can never remember his name." Her friend stared at her with her mouth open.

"Terese, do you mean to tell me that John Wayne knows you, but you don't know John Wayne?"

Smile Prime Minister

of Trinidad & Tobago back in 2007. And also the Energy Minister, a female who was very near to full term with child. I really enjoyed meeting the Trinidadians. They have an oil and gas based economy(mostly NG now) and are trying to build some industrial infrastructure rather than just exporting raw gas.

Meet Senator Zell Miller at a community function in Blairsville, Ga. Asked him to sign two copies of his hard cover book, 'Corps Values', for my nephews. Senator Miller asked where I found these, so I told him the truth. I found the copies at a discounted bookstore that sold used and closeouts from other bookstores. My wife told me I should not have been so honest. The inscriptions stated, "There are some good lessons here".

Meet Representative John Lewis at the Atlanta airport. I was on my cell phone, waiting to board my flight, when I recognized him. I automatically said "Representative John Lewis'. He stopped, shook my hand, and asked how I was. A few words later, he went to catch his flight.

Something I noticed about both of these men. Neither is very tall.

Later,

Chuck Yeager at Edwards AFB, CA sometime in the late 80s. I was working at the firing range and he was at the base for a presentation of some kind and he came out to the range to shoot in an informal pistol match we had set up. Nice guy.

I'll add a couple more-
Bobby Unser at the Motorsports HOF dinner in Detroit where they were honoring the longtime Indy speedway announcer. Nice guy.
For the local detroiters Gary Graff Detroit news music writer and wrif music news reporter. Were actually kinda friendly. I see him at a lot of concerts
Don't know if this was in my last one Twiggy Ramirez, marilyn mansons guitarist, at a concert. He needed a bandaid.
My dad was the set Medic for the movie "Hoffa" and got to know Danny devito and jack nicholson pretty well. He had devito's cell number for a minute.
