No shortage of ammo here.
I went into Nicks gun store in Palmer,Ma yesterday and saw more ammo than I have seen in a LONG time. I was looking for some .38 Spl ammo and he had it. He had every caliber there is. I was in Lewiston Id recently down the street from CCI and no one in Lewiston could even get CCI ammo (pistol). Dick and Sue at Nicks also have a nice selection of handguns and long guns. Just thought I should let you folks know.

We have a similar situation here in NE, Floriduh. One major local retailer has the isles of a fairly large store stacked with cases of all common pistol & rifle ammo.
I asked for a key to the rest room. Couldn't hardly walk down the long hallway to the rest room because both sides and all other available space was stacked floor to ceiling with more ammo.
None of it was cheap. Typically 30-40 cents a round in case lots for most pistol and rifle ammo 50 cents a round or more.
So, it's out there. But prices are still pretty stiff.

I don't think we will ever see the price of factory ammunition drop significantly. There is plenty of it to be found but it won't ever be cheap again.

Do you think it may get cheap again if every bodies "back orders" are filled and demand goes back to pre panic levels?

Went into a local Walmart (Kirkwood MO), found 9mm and .22lr, but nothing in .45acp.

I was in one of my lgs a couple weeks ago. Shelves were stocked with ammo of all calibers. Prices were on the high side, but I'd rather pay a little more than not be able to find any. I don't know if prices will ever go back to where they were pre-Obama. I have my doubts.

Unless these ammo makers and merchants want to sit on huge stockpiles of ammo, the price will eventually have to come down. It's just how it works. At least I hope so. Same with reloading components. Right now the price is still ridiculous for bullet heads.

If the war escalates the ammo mfgs. will convert to military calibers again. I'd buy what you can now.

I'm not so sure about that Wg. I hope you're right, but the price won't "have" to come down. What eventually could happen, is that everyone will have to pay higher prices, or go without. And I don't see that happening. Going without I mean. Granted, when the shortage was at it's height, I refused to pay high prices to the gougers who bought everything on the shelves and then scalped it on internet sites. Now, I don't know what kind of markup the shops have, but I suspect the high prices reflect higher prices they have to pay. If the manufacturers keep their prices high, we'll just have to pay. Or not shoot. I really hope you're right though. But even if prices come down, I doubt we'll see them come down to where they were before the shortage. I may be wrong. Back when gas was nearing $5 a gallon, I would have bet the farm that we would never see $2 a gallon gas again.

Yet amazingly just last week the MSM had a big story on the ammo shortage and the run on ammo like it was some recent/current happening. Hello?

There's plenty of high priced ammo available around here, reasonably priced ammo is still hit or miss.

I found a box of Remington Express 150gr PSP in .308 for $17.95 at WM on Friday that I needed. They only had one box though. The selection of other calibers was also in fairly short supply but has improved since the summer. I was at a show yesterday and found a dealer that had lots of the Remington .308 that I wanted for $18.95. He also had a pretty good selection of other calibers at decent prices as well. it looks like the ammo shortage around here (Houston area) is mitigating some.

Ammo Prices Are Relative....
I still have half a box of Factory Federal .38 Special 125 Grain JHP's that I bought with my first Model 10 in the early 1970's.... the box end flap has a price sticker of $18.95 + tax.
Last night I saw bulk packaged Speer 125 Grain Golddot +P ammo at the very same store for $109 for 250 rounds.... $21.80 / box (plus tax).
In those long ago days you couldn't buy ammo or components through the mail, and I worked my *** off for that 18.95.
Today I spend more than $21.80 on a decent lunch.

Many tend to forget how expensive ammo was in those days. Most of us who wanted to shoot had to reload. Even then you had to get some brass to do it. It's not like you could go on line and find all kinds of brass available. What little new component brass I saw was in small boxes. 20 rd for rifle and 50 ct for handgun and it wasn't cheap.
Later, the influx of cheap foreign ammo caused domestic makers to lower their prices to compete. It couldn't last. Still the prices are more affordable for most of us than they were back "in the good old days" when $18.95 actually represented quite a bit of labor, instead of chump change.

Jesse,
I can remember sitting for hours picking R-P Nickled .357 cases out of big buckets of once fired brass at Kittery Trading Post and being happy to pay a dime apiece for them....
I think the cheap ammo craze of the late 1990's has alot of people pretty spoiled.....

There still is no ammo to speak of in SW Florida. None at Wally World or Bass Pro . There is shotgun ammo and some rifle but no handgun or 22lr.
My local small gun shop does have import/off brands of some handgun but it is big money. Of course the elusive 380 AUTO is no where which is just plain weird?? Maybe all of it is going to Her Majesty's Secret Service and Q.??

Luckily I can now go out to the garage and make all the handgun ammo I want, as long as the primers hold out. Average price for me is about 12-13 cents a round.
