I bought a like new .44 Uberti SAA black powder revolver this weekend. It is exactly like a normal Uberti SAA with 5 1/2" barrel and case hardened frame. The only difference is that it has cut outs in the back of the cylinder for the nipples. You have to take the cylinder to load it before shooting it. I know that there was never a BP version of the SAA but it was cheap ($150.00) and I thought that it would be interesting to shoot. I understand that the reason Uberti made them was to allow cowboy action shooters something reasonable authentic to shoot in countries and locations that don't allow cartridge firearms. Anyway I thought that it was interesting and well worth the money I spent.

Yup, I seen them. I bet you should be able to buy a standard clyinder in it to shoot cartridge.

Nope, you cannot put a standard cylinder in them. They time differently. This was intentional. Uberti made them for the British market.

This is what it has come to in Great Britain. The only Cowboy Action guns they can buy are Black Powder...and Uberti filled a need...

I remember reading something where a feller did change one to centerfire...but it was a heck of a lot of trouble for very little return on the investment of time.

Anything is possible, but may not be practical or cost effective for a regular John Q. Public shooter like me.

Now, if I had a machine shop...

It does look like they come with a longer clyinder too, and that you could hardly get around that unless you change or doctor the barrels.
