Default Help with pricing a Jeep CJ7

I've got to sell my old Jeep CJ-7. I hardly drive it anymore, and I need to kick in for a needed renovation to my Dad's home. I was going to put this in an auction, but my son's girlfriend wants to buy it. I need to come up with a decent price - a good deal for her, but still fair dough to help my Pops.

This isn't it - my camera isn't handy, so I poached this one off Google images. Mine is the same year (1983), same color scheme, but more rust (no rust through) and a factory hard top. It has very low mileage - about 67K. I'm the second owner. No wrecks, runs great, but needs a master brake cylinder.

I tried Kelly Blue Book, but they don't go back to '83, at least not online. Ebay Motors is all over the place.

If anyone has any opinions as to a fair price as is - please let me know. Be honest, I won't be offended. I know its not made of gold.

Thanks in advance.

Try NADA. You will have to use the "Classic Car" section to price something from the '80s.

What motor? Transmission?
Interior Condition.

I'm thinking somewhere between $3K and $6K depending on conditions and above info.

If it runs good and has the 4.2L inline six cylinder I'd say around $4500 to $5000. I have an 84 CJ7 that is fully restored and it has the hard top, 4.2 with a/c and custom wheels. I have it insured with Hagerty for over $10K.

Lot of varialbles. I had an 84 CJ7 with 4.2, auto trans, ac, and hardtop with no body rust/damage and sold it for 4800 a couple of years ago in Central FL. Then I had an 83 Scrambler/CJ 8 which sold for 14k not long ago. If it has a bunch of rust, and you want to sell, somewhere around 3k.
I personally do not sell to friends or family. Seems to ruin relationships.

Exclamation

Would be better to see pics of your jeep. But 5 to 6 K is not out of the question I also have an 84 CJ seven. 5 Speed that I have restored more for trail ridding. Lockers fuel inj Super Swamper,s chrome Molly axles front and rear soft to etc.............Other than the fact that i am running on small 33 12.50 tires and only 4 inch lift it is very trail Worthy. I paid 3k for mine in 2001 in good cond minor rust. i now have over 13K in it.
I see them around for sale in the 5 to 6 K range in the shape you are describing. An 83 stock would be the 2.4 ltr or 258 in line six wide track. Dana 300 transfer case and either a four or five speed. Could be a 4 cyl I guess. It will depend on where you live also. Friend of mine has been looking and can't find one for less than 7K he is looking for an 81 to 85 model. he is looking for one in good cond which is getting harder to find. I turned down 10K for mine when I had just finished the resto. before I hit the trails and scratched up the new paint job. Are you sure you want to sell it. You will regret it and be one of those guys I hear saying "I used to have one of those wish I had never sold it".

Glad I could be of no help in this matter
