Meeting with politicians
I have to go to a meeting this evening. Sick as I've been over the last week, they're imploring me to attend. Not sure why, as I hate the type.
A couple of years ago one of my neighbors agreed we need to cut some underbrush. As it went along, we ended up clearing a lot of riverbank of bush honeysuckle, small trees, you name it. Turns out everyone liked our little park. So now our neighborhood is receiving the citywide award for beautification, with the park as the center piece.
So my plan is to go home in a few minutes, clean the cat's litterboxes, just to get me in the proper mood, then appear as directed. I'm sure the things I meet in the litterbox will be much more appealing than those I meet at the event. There is no one currently I'd love to punch out. Maybe I'll even be able to get through the event without being arrested. I have a reputation for being overly honest, and just telling it how it is.
Since its being held in a local Episcopal church, I can't carry. The event organizers probably thought of that before booking the location.

Why can't you CCW in a church? There is no law like that here that I know of.
Since this is an award ceremony, maybe you should just smile and nod a lot and try not to punch anybody out!

So this is the same city that is trying to kick you out of your home?

"Thank you for creating this lovely park, Mr. Burg. Now get out of your house so we can build a firestation next to the park...We'll name the park after you..."

I don't envy you attending a meeting with politicians. Hold onto your wallet & family jewels. Most polticians want both.

I avoid politicians. I'm not certain any amount of bathing would ever make me feel properly clean again.

I hate politicians. It doesn't matter if they're Repub or Demo or Indy's. They all are bought and paid for by lobbyist dollars and they all kow tow to their buddies and those who bought their elections.
If your locals are as crooked as our locals, I feel for you. Hopefully, a nice hot bath and a good delousing will help. Of course a nice glass of some sippin' bourbon (see current thread) might help to ease your pain.
Please post that fine award that your tax dollars bought from the mayors buddys (or kinfolks) trophy shoppe. I'm sure it will be most impressive!

OK, the award was a lousy plaque, and a plastic flag! I feel so thrilled.
On the other hand, I've never been inside that church. Its beautiful. Very impressive and lavish. Those folks have or had money.

Dick, you should see the National Cathedral in Washington DC, it will drop your jaw wide open.
In addition to being over the top lavish, the architectural detailing it both humorous and in some areas completely themed on past US History. It has gargoyles carrying brief cases and their open mouths are the outlet for the gutters. That is probably a bit of satire on our politicians, about the only thing they spew is waste water. In another area, I think it's the Cloisters (it's an outdoor walkway for prayer and contemplation) the pillars are carved with scenes from US History from the French Indian War onwards. All in all, one very interesting place to visit and it's also the US Home Church for the Episcopalians.
BTW, you should have rented a Prius and worn a green ribbon. With your other good deeds somebody would have probably asked you to run for Govenor.

I agree. I'd rather keep company with what the cat deposited in the litter box.

Wow. Y'all are rough on your public servants, ain't you! Who do you reckon voted for them? Don't you realize they just have "the common good" in mind? And that they know what that means better than you?
