Default Pre 64 Model 70 value question....

I have a pre-64 Winchester in .270. Manufacture was 1951. Iron Sighted. Conservatively the bluing and wood are at 98%. Pachymer installed swing away scope mount.

I'm wondering what kind of value to put on the gun.

I have a 1956 version of the Model 70 in 270 Win except my Dad added a custom stock to it. You know what, that made him happy and I've killed several antelope with it and it still shoots into less the an inch at 100 yards so I love it the way it is.

They are grail guns !!!

It depends on which Pachmayr mount is on the gun. I think they called the swing away style the “Lo-Swing” mount. They made some that mounted in the factory holes and some that required additional holes and may have even required relieving of the wood.

An early 1950’s vintage Model 70 should be factory drilled front and back and have two plugged receiver sight holes on the left rear. This similar .270 (191,3XX) has a Stith mount in the existing holes and didn’t require modification. It’s value is the gun plus the optics ($1500+). Additional holes is a big hit on the gun, but you know that.

Very nice rifles! Have a 73.5## From 1948. Unkle got home from Guam in WW2 and bought a nice 30.gov06. He did well. Have never hunted with it but it will "kill" oranges at 100 yards nicely. It's a much better shot than I am. Only changes was a set of redfield pep sights and a recoil pad. Was even good enough to save the factory parts and the redfield box. Wish I could have sent him the cash for the supergrade but I was not thought of yet!
