Are there any small game hunters that use combo rifles
I was just wondering how many guys use combo rifles. I own a savage combo rifle in 22lr and 20 ga, barrel and I also have the .410 insert in case I want to shoot that instead of the 20 ga shells. When 1 shot is all you get and no time for a follow up shot. It makes me really take my time lining up a shot. Especially with the 22lr barrel. The shotgun part is pretty easy. Not wanting to mount a scope on it because the book says don't fire the shotgun with scope on it. Are there any guys or gals that use these simple type combo rifles? I'll post my pictures tomorrow of my rifle. It you have one and do use it. I would like to hear about it. Thanks in advance.

I have the same one it has the ammo storage in the butt plate. Great gun it's been years since I last used it, but it was nice for the ranch hikes. I've never seen the 410 adapter did you purchase it separately or was it included?

I have(and use) a Savage 24V, .223 on top and a 12 Gauge bottom. I have a 20 Gauge insert for the SG bore also. I use a Weaver 2.5X scope with a quick detachable mount for changing barrels, or I can use the rifle sights for the .223 out to about 75 yards.
I really like it even though is is aittle heavier than I like for woods wandering. Might be my go to survival weapon(along with the appropriate S&W handgun of course).

I have a 24V with a 30-30 top barrel and a 20 gauge 3" bottom barrel.
I grew up calling it a "turkey gun". With overlapping seasons (deer/turkey) you could be ready for either one with just the one rifle.
Single shot and heavy, but it gets the job done. It used to be my trunk gun until I bought a Spanish FR8.

22/20 gauge owner. I use it to hunt jack rabbits, runners get the shotgun, setters the 22. Mine came used with a cheap chinese rip off red dot. I have had no recoil problems with the 20 gauge.

A German hunter who posts a lot on the Fallkniven knife forum has a drilling. He seems to like it.
I think the rifle barrel is 7X65R. Don't know about the shotgun barrrels.

I also have a 24-V. Mine is .222 over 3" 20 Ga. I haven't used it for years but it has taken grouse, squirrels, and a rabbit or 2. I took it turkey hunting maybe twice.... but never got to shoot a bird with it.
One trip hunting squirrels I watched a true albino doe browsing around for maybe 1/2 hour through the scope. A great memory
BTW...with a good scope mounted that .222 will really shoot!

I have a Sauer and Sohn 12X12X30.06. I have 20 and 410 inserts and they work just fine. The 410 in the 12 guage barrel surprises me at how well it kills squirrels. They make a .22 insert for the 06 but it is really expensive. Its a full length tube. Mine also has a scope and claw mounts. A fun gun to own. I'll probably sell it and upgrade to a Kreigoff one day.

OK here is my combo rifle in 22lr 20 ga/410
I dug it out of the safe like I said I would, Any other combo rifle pic's out there. They are great rifles,as simple as can be. But 1 shot is all you get so make it count. The pic on the right is the .410 insert adaptor. I used it twice and never used it again, cost 25.00 extra. Buying itseemed like the thing to do at the time.

Love the Savage 24V and other mdl. combo guns
M6 22/410 traded the 22hornet/410
22/410
22/20
30-30/20
223/20
357max/20
All of these make great multi-use guns when out in the field.
I found the Springfield M6 to be the ultimate light weight combo 22/410 as it can be folded up or taken down with 1 pin.
Strangest one is the Garco bicycle gun which is a skeleton stocked 22/410 opened by twisting barrels to the side
You can get around the scope problem by mounting a "red dot" so to avoid having the dreaded "scope slap"

I am a fan of the M6 Scout. I have one in Hornet over .410 and have used it to bag rabbits, squirrels, and believe it or not a quail or two, (on the wing mind you not Arkansas style!). Mine was made before CZ started making them. Great gun.

My first huntin' gun was a Stevens .22/.410 that my granddaddy bought at the beginning of WW II. He used it to keep the rabbits out of his garden. It has the Tenite (plastic) stock and the side button selector switch. I hunted squirrels and bunnies with it as a kid.
I bought some .410 shells last year, but haven't taken it out in quite a while. I knocked of the rear sight as a teenager, walking across a frozen pond. Still did pretty good with the .22 barrel, using only the bead front.
Might not do as well these days.
