Default Local Deputy Has Close Call.

Here's the situation. There are several large night clubs in the area that attract a lot of folks form other parts of the state. The clubs close at 2:00 a.m. which releases hundreds of drunken people upon the local all night eateries. This happens mostly on Saturday and Sunday mornings. This causes all kinds of trouble. Many of the former all night eateries simply close down between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m because they can't cope with the fights and other misbehaviors. There have also been some shootings and cuttings in the last few years. At some of the sit down restaurants there have been incidents of dozens of people jumping up at the same time and running out the door without paying for their meal. The places, including a few gas stations, that choose to remain open have hired private security or off duty LEO's. I will not work at one of these places. I want to approach retirement as peacefully as possible.

Early last Saturday morning Deputy Ed was working one of these details at a Taco Bell. Here they close the dining room early and leave the drive through open. A few minutes before the dining room was to close a guy I'll call Chris comes in the dining room. He doesn't order anything and starts chatting up folks to the extent that he becomes a pest. Deputy Ed keeps an eye on him but doesn't say anything to him until it is time to close the dining room. When asked to leave Chris starts protesting and cursing Deputy Ed. Deputy Ed is over 6" tall , 280 lbs. and he's not fat. He's also very patient. He's trying to get Chris out of there without arresting him, but Chris is making it hard. Chris finally crosses the street and yells at Deputy Ed "You're going down!" Deputy Ed decides to stand outside the store in case Chris returns. He watches two guys pull up to the window in a black pick-up. All of a sudden the black pick-up races off burning the tires as they left. From what the video shows they had apparently seen Chris sneaking up behind the restaurant with a gun. The truck had gotten Deputy Ed's attention enough that he also saw Chris trying to come up behind him allowing him time to draw his Glock 22. It became a Mexican standoff with both men aiming at each other until Chris got a corner of the building and ran off. Deputy Ed called for back-up and Chris was arrested without the gun a few blocks away. He claimed not to have a gun and said he was only trying to talk to Deputy Ed. The video clearly shows what happened and Chris is in jail charged with a felony.

God must love idiots; he certainly made enough of them. It's good that Deputy Ed got to go home -- vertically and all. - Jim

Nothing escapes the trained mind....

There's a choice specimen of handgun ditched someplace nearby. We could add that to the collection if we could find it! Prime trading material, too.

I am always both amazed and angered at people who will try to take on an armed peace officer this way...such idiots deserve whatever happens to them.

On Wednesday night in Baltimore, a police officer driving on a major street witnessed an armed robbery in progress, with a teenager holding a pistol to the back or neck of a medical student who'd been riding his bicycle. The officer exited his car, drew his Glock, and ordered the robber to drop his weapon.

The robber refused, and pointed the gun at the officer, who fired two rounds into center mass, critically wounding the robber, who at this writing is clinging to life.

It turned out the armed robber is 14 years old...and his weapon was a BB gun...

As that great social philosopher Bugs Bunny would say: "What a maroon..."

Once again, as Texas poet laureate Ron White stated so eloquently,
"Ya' can't fix stupid"!
I'm glad the deputy is OK Charlie.

I agree, a short time in the greybar hilton and he will be a new person. Never having any desire to be stupid again.

Remember, "Stupid is God's way of cleaning out the gene pool"

I feel sorry for the officer, because now that he did his job correctly, he will be vilified for shooting a "young boy" and he should have known that the gun was not real, because of his training. God, I am so glad that I was able to retire and get away from all the bull manure.
