None of that bikinis and machine guns modern nonsense ... we're talking vintage!

I just discovered a fantastic website dedicated to old photographs, and while searching came across these great shots. These are optimized for web view, but one can get huge hi-res versions at the site Shorpy Historic Photo Archive | Best Pix on the Net I linked them below.

What a great time it must have been in America then. Wonder if they still have these school teams in D.C. today? Yeah, right.

Washington, D.C., circa 1925. "Girls' rifle team of Drexel Institute."

Okay. I've got the short one #2 stage right in next to the last photo. The rest of ya'll just back off. . . :D

They are all right handed . Maybe they beat them into shooting right handed like they used to do with writing? ;)

Neat pics, that whole site is full of photo goodness.

Wow, what a great post! Thank goodness we have the modren version of these gal's around still.

I posted a Girls and Guns video link a few days ago, but can't find it. Must have been deleted. But they all looked a lot hotter than this bunch. Wore a lot less, too.

But this does show that the girls and guns theme goes back for many years.

Looks like Miss Mary Jayne has a Colt .25 in that holster

Great pictures and website.

The little Colt 1908 .25 is in an Audley Holster designed for a Colt 1903-'08 (.32-.380)

Can't identify all the rifles but here goes for some of them:
Drexel, left to right: M 1922 Spfld, Win 52, M1922 Spfld?, Winder Musket, Spfld, Winder Musket.

U of Md: mis of M1922 Spflds, and Winder Muskets.

Central High; Winder Muskets.

Must be an indoor, 50 foot league: those Winder Muskets were chambered for the 22 Short.

MickeyD.... good call on the Audley holster! They're interesting holsters, I just wish they didn't tend to scratch the finish on the trigger guards.

Here are two 1914 vintage pics... a group of ladies getting some handgun instruction from the local constable:

Audley enough, I'm a fan of the design and started collecting a few. I'd like one like that rig she has to go with my Colt 1903 Hammerless.

These two are for a 4" K frame and a Colt Police Positive.

Mickey,

I've got 2 of them... one for a 4" I think (I've got it stashed somewhere!)... and the other is for a snub nose M&P.

My mother (b.1913) knew one her great grandmothers, she told me Great Grandma had the reputation of being a good shot. Annie Oakley we all know, there were the Fabulous Topperweins, Adalbert and "Plinky".
