One year Aniversary
Im a little late in posting this, but for fair reason.
As of Oct 11, the wife and I have made it a year without bloodshed nor gunfire.
She wanted to give me a gift that no one else ever had.
so she gave me a gift that perhaps only she could have thought of. Time in a professional recording studio.
this is what can happen when a heavy metal guitarist marries a classical pianist.

This gift also help solve a problem I have been laboring over.
The logistics of trying to make it to a friends wedding next week. I just cant make it, but I can, and have shipped this piece along as my blessing, to be used at their ceremony

Interesting.
I'd never thought of Ave Maria in heavy metal.
I liked it. Well done.

sound wise, The Ave is one of the hardest pieces to do on a guitar while maintaining reverence and meeting its demands.
clean acoustic tone fails cause it wont sustain, a light blues driven tone also fails, while you can ring a note for five minutes it falls in volume too soon. The only thing Ive found that can hold the notes is full on heavy metal distortion and the livin' pile of gain that comes with it.
once you iron out as much of the gritty grain sound enough to pass for a smooth vocal ... you then have the only way Ive found to play it right.
Ive done this in church, without getting tarred and feathered, so my theory might be close to the mark.
it took two takes to nail it in the studio.
the first run was going perfect until I got to thinking about the history of the Marshall stack I was plugged into.
I was told it was once used by none other than Joan Jet in its service life at the studio. Decades later, the same amp that performed "I hate myself for loving you" was producing one of the most beautifull pieces of loving adoration in the history of music. It struck me as so funny so I cracked up on the first run.

Happy Anniversary!
That was a very interesting rendition of Ave Maria. Well done. In my younger days, I was a classical trumpet player. I can understand the hurdles you had to overcome to get those two instruments to blend in such a delicate piece as that.

My guitar is a B.C. Rich " Masterpiece Rich Bich".
something about the fairly oddball woods they use has me gravitating to the tonal qualities of their guitars.
the radical designs thereof are also rather fun when playing in the church choir. new and visiting parishioners look in absolute shock that it made it through the door without getting struck by lightning, they expect the worst as well. Until they actualy hear what it does when I play well with others
Hey there WG ... been a while
The guitar seems to compliment the piano well right out of the gate. And believe me that helps out alot.
It seems to be mostly woodwinds, and brass that have a hard time getting along with the keys. When they do make themselves an exception to that rule they have my respect.
The Ave Maria is one of those pieces you have to feel to your core and project through the instrument you choose.

Great job!! It's really beautiful. You two meld together very nicely - but I guess you already knew that.

Thank you Barb ... yup its an unlikely mix that at times becomes quite stunning.
it is an unexpected bonus of our marriage.
some works are so stunning in the mix that while being technicaly easy to play, become difficult for hearing that blend laying out so perfectly in one measure. Then in the next measure we are often thinking "that was cool now I have to play .. what ?"
at least we arnt slave driving perfectionists about it so we can laugh off those ball drops
