Default Walther recall disapointment

Finally got a chance to take my recalled ppk/s to the range friday.Sent it in on recall in March, got it back in June.Lack of available ammo caused me to wait untill now to shoot it.Two hundred rounds fired, fifty to sixty rounds were failures to fire on the first trigger pull,it took multiple trigger pulls(2 to 12) on some of those FTF rounds.I'll be calling S&W in the morning. The hammer does not to have the hard snap that it had before I returned it,I was freightened by the loud snap of the hammer on the decocker lever when I first got the gun, this being my first handgun ever.I really did not want to return the gun when I was not having any problems with it,but I erred on the side of safety.Should have went with my gut feeling.

Ugh. I cannot imagine a situation more disheartening then sending off a gun only to have it come back still not functioning properly. I just don't get it.

I have a pre-war .32 Zella-Mehlis PPK, a 1966 .380 W. German Ulm/Do PPK, and an Interarms stainless PPK .380 from 1988 and all three fire perfectly without fail.

I hope someone lost their job when they messed up an 80 year old design.

If they returned the original main spring just stick it back in there. If not buy one from Wolff. I know it.s not the "correct" solution, but probably the easiest.

You are not alone:

PPK & PPK/S Recall: The Facts - WaltherForums

If you read far enough, you will find that S&W has replaced guns or refunded the purchase price in some instances reported.

A good case of "If it ain't broke-fix it 'til it is"
Or as my old pal Red Green used to say..."If it ain't broke-you ain't tryin' hard enough"

I haven't read any of the details on this recall, but I simply don't get how you can take a design that old, and that worked that well, and screw it up. I personally think the gun should be pulled from production entirely, and give the production rights to someone who know what they're doing. I thought that I'd like to have a regular PPK someday, but I've about decided against it, at least if S & W had anything to do with it.

buy a pre-68 ppk. i have one in 22lr and 380acp. both a reliable and easy to carry. they both also shoot quite well for being so small and with small sights.

You are not alone. I sent mine back THREE times after the recall "fix" it would misfire in double action. They finally replaced the HAMMER and that seems to have fixed it but I am still not sure. I need to load up another 200 rounds of 380 and shoot them to be positive. The problem is it ejects the brass into the next county and it's hard to recover my precious .380 brass. I am still miffed about it and threw it in the safe and don't want to mess with it.
