Smile Lonesome Dove Western

Good Morning:
In the movie "Lonesome Dove" Gus and PI are trapped in a creek bank by indians. Gus is loading his Walker Colt with metillac cartridges in a loading gate on the right side of the weapon like a Colt SAA. Where Walker Colts converted to metillac cartridges as Colt Model 1860s or was this "Hollywood"?

I googled Colt Walker conversion and found one site that stated that in 1870 Colt would convert their revolvers for $5. What year was Lonesome Dove set? Possible but probably not common.

In the series...it was actually converted to use .38 Special blanks.

However, it would have been likely since he was fond of his Henry rifle...that he had it converted to .44 Henry Flat rimfire- had it really happened- but I don't recall if it is possible on that caliber in reality.

The Mrs. told me she'd dump me for Gus in a heartbeat.
Glad I have a gal that loves cowboys.

It had to be set in 1876 because Gus makes a remark about "what just happened to Custer". There was probably Frontier gunsmiths that would covert sixguns to cartridge. Look at Ned Christie, for example. Imagine how heavy that gun was in .38 Special!
