Default First ride in a civilian ambulance (update)

Well I just got my first ride in a civilian ambulance. It was so full of stuff it was a mobile hospital. They were and the staff at Backus were very careful with me. None of the bouncing and jostling I expected.

My back let go on me completely, I’m not sure what is going to happen this time but I’m afraid I might be having a life changing event. I see a new specialist tomorrow (3rd doctor this week) so I guess it might be time to take more serious action.

I’m pretty dopy now so I will give more details when I get them.

Warren

Well I hope you get to feeling better and I hope you have better insurance than mine. I took an ambulance ride from one hospital to another that lasted about 5 minutes and it cost me over $500. Maybe it was 10 minutes total. Good luck.

I wish you a successful and speedy recovery. It's amazing what can be done nowadays with backs and surgeries.

Good luck and prayers are with you . Having had 4 back surgeries, I hope to assure you there are some great specialists out there that can fix you up. The least invasive is the most important. Scar tissue build up is another issue. If you have the availability, see a neurosurgeon that specializes in back's.

I hope the best for you, Warren. Do post your before-and-after experiences - my back is about shot from the mid section to the lower part, and I'd be most interested in your case. Thanks.

Pete

Prayers for your complete recovery. Backs can be very complicated and difficult to diagnose. Best of luck.

Looking at all the folks heading out to deer camp tonight;not me. Hip replacement 8/31. My own first trip on an ambulance a week ago Sunday when the new hip went out. Quite an adventure. The EMT's knew pain was at a level 10. New best friend is "Jamie" a para who gave me drugs. Got to the ER, took pics, knocked me out, popped it back, and I walked out. I'm being verryy careful for 6 weeks more...

I have wanted to get a health/back update going for a few days now s here goes. 12-8-09

The pain is in the coming and going stages. The excruciating pain has not happened in over a week. The pains now are like having been punched a day or two ago. It hurts sometimes when I move. It can be kind of bad but nothing that makes me suck in air and hold on like it might be the last one. Sometimes it feels just fine.

Friday the 4th I saw the specialist who had the tests done and he showed me two disks that are herniated (the first two above the tailbone) and one higher up that is bulging. That is the one that caused so much pain this time.

I have been doing inverted traction daily....

Physical therapy starts next week. When I feel good I feel like I always have and hate to be restricted. It is getting me down. He set a lift limit of 20 pounds. And I’m not doing any backhoe work at all because of the bouncing. I went to a couple light photo shoots last week with Tanya as a helper but I hate feeling like a sissy / slacker. Everybody at work and around me is OK with it but I just hate the feeling of being dependant on someone. I like people to depend on me.

One good thing about this is that I haven’t competed in a national, state, or regional IDPA match since the Indoor Nationals last February. (I got 2nd place expert stock revolver) I’m going to work on the physical therapist to get me in condition for the upcoming Winter Nationals in 9 weeks. I find that I’m very goal orientated for the last 10-15 years so this will be a fun goal to strive for. I might have to switch to a sissy automatic handgun because the recoil is much less shocking to the shoulders. That puts me way behind in training but oh well, Deb said she will love me even if I don’t place!

On another note, yesterday Deb took me to the doctor and then on the way home we would stop at my mom & dads house to check on the progress in their move. We got close to their house and heard a funny clicking noise coming from her tire. We hit a razor knife blade and spent hours getting that tire replaced after regular business hours. Living in the boonies is nice until you have that kind of a problem. I really did not want to have her driving around on a donut spare last night and today till it got fixed. Camry tires are $250 too.
