Building safe room..any ideas on insides?
Im building about 150 sq' gun room in my new house. I have the door and everything im just looking for some ideas on finishing the inside, there are not many pics I find online showing the insides of them. I have several S&W pistols that i want to make visible..I dont have room for a show case, they will have to be on shelves under the long guns or something like that. Anyone have any pics of their safe room or anyone they know? please send anything you have to my e-mail thanks... William Earlywine [email protected]

Are you planning a room in which to store your guns or a room to retreat to in the event of a home invasion? Those are 2 different animals indeed.

I'd sure want ventilation, lockable/openable FROM the inside, various plug in for whatever cable/internet (lots of great reloading sites) unless have in other locations....a comfy MAN CAVE requires more attention to details than mere "lock & secure" feature.
I used to poo-poo the idea...but have seen what some clever arrangement can do...to make an excellent space for more than just racks & stacks....

I'd need a little more info to provide any advice. Are you asking about a gun room as in an oversized walk in safe where you will be displaying your firearms? Is the room that you have in mind more like a safe room where you and your family could retreat inside of should there be a home invasion? Or is it more like a gun room/storage room/reloading room/man cave?
Do a google search on gun rooms for images. There are some firms that specialize in planning and building custom millwork for racks and displays. A lot of these are extremely elaborate with exotic woods, stone flooring, etc.
Have fun with the project. Someday when I win Powerball I'll design my own. We are talking Powerball here so the sky would be the limit. I'd probably start with a pre-cast concrete bank vault. Line the walls with custom walnut and glass pistol and rifle racks, have a big glass topped display case in the middle, and a comfy chair and reading light in the corner. Of course the door would be hidden behind a panel in the book case in my office, ala Scooby-Doo...

Several years ago aomeone here posted a custom cabinet he made that had drawers made to fit handgun racks that held the guns at a 45 degree down angle, butts toward the drawer front. Very nice, and the guns were well displayed when the drawers were parked open.
The cabinets had work surfaces on the top, well thought out furniture.
