BEAR ATTACK (PHOTO'S)
For all you snopes guys, this is just a story sent to me. Take it as a story. Nobody is asking you to send money to the widow of the bear. Nobody is trying to sell you a heavy duty bear killing cannon that fits in your back pocket.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This guy lives just outside of Soldotna.
Have I got a story for you guys!
King salmon season is over, and since I had a day off before silvers start, I thought I would go for a walk! This occurred at 11:16 am this morning (Sunday), just 2/10 of a mile from my house, ON OUR ROAD while walking
my dogs (trying to get in shape for hunting season, ironically!) For the record, this is in a residential area - not back in the woods, no bow hunting, no stealth occurring....
I heard a twig snap, and looked back...full on charge - a huge brownie, ears back, head low and motorin' full speed! Came with zero warning; no Woof, no popping of the teeth, no standing up, nothing like what you think or see on TV! It charged from less than 20 yards and was on me in About one-second! Totally surreal - I just started shooting in the general direction, and praise God that my second shot (or was it my third?) rolled him at 5 feet and he skidded to a stop 10 feet BEYOND where I was shooting from. I actually sidestepped him and fell over backwards on the last shot, and his momentum carried him to a stop past where I fired my first shot!
It was a prehistoric old boar - no teeth, no fat-weighed between 900-1000 lbs and took five men to DRAG it onto a tilt-bed trailer! Big bear - its paw measured out at about a 9 1/2 footer!
Never-ever-thought "it" would happen to me! It's always some other smuck, right? Well, no bull- I am still high on adrenaline, with my gut in a Knot. Feels like I did 10000 crunches without stopping! Almost puked for an hour after, had the burps and couldn't even stand up as the troopers conducted their investigation! Totally wiped me out - can't even put that feeling into words, by far the most emotion I have ever felt at once!
No doubt that God was with me, as I brought my Ruger .454 Casull (and some "hot" 350 grain solids) just for the heck of it, and managed to Draw and snap shoot (pointed, never even aimed!) from the hip! Total luck shot!

I have read this account a few other places, and believe it to be true and factual. I have a brother that lives in Soldotna, maybe I should call and ask him if he knows this guy. It isn't a real big town, and most people know each other.
The man is lucky that at least one of his shots hit something vital, seeing how close the bear was and all, and he said he didn't even try to aim .

One reason I actually practice hip shooting.
You never know when you may not have the time to do a full proper draw and presentation before firing.

This became a controversial thread elsewhere....his story was strongly disputed if I recall correctly...by folks in his area.

The paws on that bear, and the claws on that bear are HUGE. And it sure enough looks like a real dead bear. Would be interesting to know where the bear was hit. The bear's mouth looks a bit tore up in one shot.

"I think I would have messed in my pants"
If you are ever in that situation, that is not a problem. That spincter valve is so tight not ever gas can escape!!
(Speaking from experience with a wounded black bear [no where near as large] and receiving incoming fire from a "sniper" while answering a call as a LEO.)

***BEAR THREAD WARNING***
This is a Bear Thread Warning - conditions exist for a hostile and possibly irrational discussion regarding the application of force against the Ursus family. Be prepared for comments about the merits of pepper spray and bells vs. firearms as well as those stating that bears present no threat whatsoever to humans. Also be aware of potential suggestions about filing the front sight off any handgun employed in order to create a less invasive rectal incursion - those advocating the use of any caliber below .44 Magnum are particularly vulnerable to said comments.
Again - this is a BEAR THREAD WARNING...stay tuned to your local message board for instructions and updates on current conditions.

This brings up the age old question: "Why do stores sell a pair of panties but one bra?

I don't know, but does it possibly explain why there are more topless bars than bottomless?

Looks like he was posing with the Ruger Alaskan over a bear that had starved to death.
Oh yeah, to stay on topic, a dyslexic guy walks into a bra.....

Sounds like another Bear story. What if I'm walking down the road minding my own business and a big...big...big bear jumps out at me...What kind of gun should I run in the house and grab to shoot him with? Just kidding around but man what a big bear. I'm glad I don't have to worry about bears in my neighborhood here in Kentucky or do I.

Just thought I'd throw my this in not meaning to brag or anything but I once wrestled a bear bigger than this and pinned him in under two minutes. The bear got mad, ran off and I haven't seen him since.

I can't go with his story. As far as the trooper's report goes - well, I think they let this guy slide. Just think about the time element and caliber. First off, anyone ever shoot a full house load in a 454 from the hip - ever done it twice? Now the time element - a big brown in full charge mode closes on you at the approximate rate of 44 feet per second. He first became aware of the bear at 20 yards and the bear was already at top speed - that gives the shooter about 1.5 seconds before "up close and personal" contact occurs. He was able to draw and fire 3 hot 454 loads from the hip and kill that bear in less than 50 feet, as the bear came to a "dead" stop 5 feet from the shooter. I think there's more to that story and the residents up there not believing a word of it, probably know the "whole" story.
