Default Otis Pistol Cleaning Kit

Hi,
Was wondering what everyones thoughts are on this cleaning kit?
I think the one I was looking at is a model 610 (for 22-45 caliber pistols).
The concept sounds good, cleaning from the breech-end...but wondering how are they with a revolver and one with a fairly long barrel (6")

Look forward to your thoughts, Drew

I think they're great. I have had one for several years and have bought them as presents for my friends. I have only used mine as a trail/hunting emergency cleaner. It works fine in that regard. The flexible cable is pretty stiff. It can clean out mud etc. easily.

Seems as though Andy Griffith could answer this better than Beaver.

I am looking for a compact cleaning kit of sorts to throw in the "bug-out-bag", and I had considered the Otis for its compactness. I have since started thinking that a couple of boresnakes might be a better and more convenient option for quick, on the road type cleaning. I would be interested to hear other opinions on the Otis system. Don't mind me, I will just be sitting here in the corner listening to the responses. Thanks for posting this.
They do seem a bit pricey though.

I have the Otis kit that comes with three different cables as well as a variety of tips and brushes for different calibers. I got it originally to use on my "gas" guns like my AR clone and my Garand, so I could clean them from the breech end without taking them down completely. I have now started using the kit for revolvers as well. Totally satisfied with the kit although I have not yet had the opportunity to evaluate it on a mud-clogged barrel.

I hope that helps,

Frank

Here I is!!!

These things are great for field use.
However, they can't replace your heavy bench rods for thorough or heavy deleading, removal of deep copper fouling or cleaning cylinder charge hole carbon buildup.

Like mine. Use to clean my handguns and rifles. Agree though that a high quality carbon fiber rod can't be beat.

Thanks for the replies!

I was thinking that cleaning from the breech-end would be benificial and safer on the crown...
Is there any kits in particular that one would recommend for a good general use cleaning on my 686? Looking for stuff to put on my wish list

Mpro7 has a new travel cleaning kit. I have been using Mpro7 for years. The military, police and corrections have been using the product and found great results. Follow the directions and my guns look new when I am finished. Check out the products on Brownells or Midway.

Otis Gun Cleaning Kits

I got this one off Ebay when it was $49. !!

Issue OTIS Cleaning Kit 5.56 7.62 9mm 45 Combo 85211 - eBay (item 400087722997 end time Nov-30-09 03:23:10 PST)

It doesn't mention 12 Gauge in the title but the list of items does. This is in the range bag and should be great for the bug-out bag.

Just thought I would follow-up on this thread...
I have since purchased the Otis Deluxe Rifle/Pistol Kit! I gotta say I've used it a few times now and I am very satisfied.
I was a little skeptical at first and also thought it was going to be a pain in the **** to use; threading their patches and all...
But it actually is pretty simple and it all fits in a case that can easily fit in a pocket (probably about the size of a big fist)... Awesome!

I bought the ubber deluxe kit that has everything from .17 up to 12 gauge. It also comes with a travel kit you can take along. It all comes in a case about 12" x 10". I don't take it anywhere with me, it's just for cleaning guns at home as it has brushes and stuff for everything. I have had it for a few years and love it.
