Default Thinking of selling a gun. Any States a FFL would have problems shipping to?

I plan on selling a non S&W handgun through the forums or Auction. I have arranged to ship from my FFL to the buyers FFL. I see a lot of times, no shipping to California and some other States. Is there a list of States I should specify no shipping to? I plan on paying the shipping by USPS Priority so Alaska and Hawaii are out also.

Thanks

California makes the sending FFL register at the DOJ...but a bigger pain is the "Approved List" of guns that can be sold in Ca...if your gun is fairly old, chances are it won't be on the list and can't be shipped into state. Any pre-lock Smith would also be off the list.

If your FFL is willing to do it, I would ship to any of the contiguous states. Your name shouldn't have to be associated with the transfer. Their money is still as good as anyone's.

I just do not want any "extra" hassles for my FFL, as Sip said he would have to send another form or worry what gun it is.
Is there a list of approved California Guns? Air soft, squirt guns?? It's a new gun and has a internal lock, rhymes with Mt Lion

In California, single action revolvers and any handgun over 50 years old were exempted from being on the approved handgun list.

Priority Mail to AK or HI is the same Flat Rate Box rate as if you send it down the street.

Link to CA approved handgun list
Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale - Firearms Division - California Dept. of Justice - Office of the Attorney General

MA also has an 'approved for sale' list.

Ask your FFL if he has a list of States or Citys he will not do transfers to. Just list that info in your ad.

I just traded my P7M8 this week for a P2000 in Wisconsin. The P2000 came from Matt Del Fatti and he has an FFL..he told me he didn't mind too much the whole registering at the DOJ site.

The gun arrived today, so I went to sign for it and wait the stupid 10 days. At the gun store, one of the guys is checking the CA DOJ roster to see if I can receive it...uh, hello..you knew it was a V2 P2000 when I came in last week.....don't you check before hand? They told me if it wasn't on the list, they would have had to send it back. Luckily it was. Then the guy looks at the lock in the box and notices it is not marked HK but Springfield. He checked with the other sales person to see if that was okay...at this point I'm getting a bit hot and I said you got to be kidding me...I'm not buying another lock...safe to say, i didn't have to. Welcome to California.

I didn't realize you all had an approved list for locks, also.

You have to wait 10 days?? In Florida if you have a CCW you can walk right out. If no CCW the wait is 3 days for a handgun. There is no wait for a long gun so you can walk out with a 12 gauge or a AR15 cause those are not dangerous

Pre AWB hi cap handgun magazines & handguns for same are still legal in NYS.
The problem is trying to put a DOM on the magazines in alot of instances. Some are obvious, many are not.

Mass. & Cal. have approved lists that may exclude some handguns. NJ has a 15 round mag limit, but otherwise it's FFL to FFL there and in most other states.
The mag restriction of 10 rounds is the rule in NY, I believe.

Thanks for the replies.

It's a revolver so no mag problems. I spoke with my FFL and he says anywhere except California.

Some dealers in CA I have dealt with won't even let you bring your own' gunlock to the store. They say that you have to buy one from them to get the gun out the door, unless the gun came with it's original factory lock. I tend to stay away from those shops because they are also the ones who charge more than the CA DOJ fee to transfer the gun to you.
