Default More .22LR Federal @ Walmart!

Stopped at a nearby, very "urban" WalMart this afternoon, looking for something entirely different, but from force of habit first swung by the sporting goods section, and discovered two 550 round boxes of Federal HPs in the ammo case. There was no clerk in attendance, so, I picked up the phone on the counter, and using the in-house directory, rang customer service and requested a salesperson. After several minutes, I heard a page for "assistance at sporting goods." After a few more minutes, someone wearing an "assistant manager" badge came around, and also made a number of internal calls, cursing, sotto voce, at his non-response.

Meanwhile, another customer gave the ammo case close perusal, and apparently took notice of the same .22 ammo on which I had "dibs", having arrived first, but he hung around. Eventually a young man showed up, asked how he could help, and I said, "I'll take both boxes of that Federal .22 ammo." The other guy, sounding surprised and disappointed, said, "You want both boxes?"

Clerk says, "I think I've got more in the back..." and vanished, only to return in few minutes with a case of 550 Bulk Pack. I bought my store-imposed limit of six boxes, 3,300 rounds, with some left for the other latecomeing customer.

One more thing to be thankful about this holiday weekend!

I have several Wal Marts near me. I stop into them when ever I pass by them. Have managed to buy about 10 boxes of that ammo. Some Wal Marts charge $15.47. Others charge $16.47. In the same area, about 15 or 20 miles apart. I am curious, what did they cost where you are? I was at a big gun show last weekend. There was a guy there that a box of it on his table for $25.00. Sometimes I find the 50 round boxes of Federal 9mm ball for about $10.00. Saw some of that at gun show, guy was asking $20.00. Did not buy any ammo at gun show.

Most gun show guys dealing ammo bought the **** at Wal Mart, then try to flip it for a fast, high profit at the gun show. I stopped by a table at the last Birmingham show, it was after 3:00p.m. on Sunday, and everyone was loading up to go home. This guy's table was loaded with what basically amounted to garbage, most of it non-gun related; yard sale type stuff. He had ONE box of .38 Special +p all lead hollowpoints, factory loads by Winchester I think, and he wanted $30.00. I offered twenty, and he looked at me like I was crazy, and IMMEDIATELY said no. I figured if he wants to load them up and carry them home or to the next show, that's his perogative, but I wasn't about to pay that for what basically looked as if it had sat in a storage room in this guy's garage for twenty years. Gun shows simply aren't the place to buy ammo most of the time.

This is right on the mark; some of these guys are buying ammo cheap at WM, and selling it high at shows... People just need to be patient, and stop hording, there is plenty of ammo coming out days. As much as I hate the idea of stores applying buying "limits," it does help increase availability and combat the price gouging.

I loaded up on Federal .22 HP's at Wally a number of years ago. They were $8.88 a carton. Bought 8 cartons, still have 4 plus some Winchester's I got at the local gun shop 2 years ago for 10 bucks a carton. Should have sold them for profit but gave most to my grandkids. Still shoot my 10-22. Henry Golden Boy, Win. Model 61 & my S&W prewar 22-32 for fun. Use them mostly for plinking but sure are fun.
