Iver Johnson
A gun company by the name of Iver Johnson used to manufacturer M-1 carbines.
How is "Iver" pronouned ?
Is it "Ivy" like the vine that grows on things or is it pronounced just like it is spelled, long "I" followed by "ver" ?
Thanks.

I noticed your location is Virginia. All you have to do is go up into the Appalachian Mountains and find a local resident. Then ask him to say "I have her". I've always heard it pronounced long "I" followed by "ver".

And if you go south to the Piedmont of NC, you'll hear a significant number of people say "I-ver-re", although many will say "I-ver".

This is correct. Back before the Iver Johnson plant in Jacksonville, Arkansas, closed around 1992, my brother was an employee of Iver Johnson. This is how they pronounced it.

Jeff, it wasn't meant to be offensive. I've been listening to it all my life.

Oh don't worry I wasn't really offended at all. I figure if someone making fun of the way I talk is the worst thing that happened to me all day, its a pretty good day.
