Hi:
Is there a good bore cleaner without the odor of Hoppe #9?

I have been using this product of late and it is very immpresive, great cleaner and no odor. Most of the new non-petroleum based cleaners have very mild odors.

Bore Solvents - Bore Tech Eliminator - 16 oz.

Hoppes elite has little or no smell. And claims to be "enviromentely harmless."

But I like the smell of #9

Hoppes Elite products are effective and odorless. I think you shortchange yourself if the traditional aroma of Hoppes No. 9 is not involved to some degree in one's gun cleaning ritual...

No odor! Get a rope!

Nothing better than the smell of ol' #9 to complete the shooting experience.

Just got a small bottle of Gunzilla to try out. It's a clean, lube, protect kind of product. Although I haven't tried it on everything yet, it seems to work well without any noticeable odor, also supposed to be environmentally safe. Gunzilla

Not saying it's the best, but it's worth trying..

Note: I have no financial interest in Gunzilla

Hoppes #9 is pretty much the only cleaning agent my lovely wife will allow to be used in the house. The rest of that "****" can stay in the garage she says.

I like Sweet's 7.62 myself.

If a cleaner don't disintegrate the brush and rod, I consider it worthless.

As for regular Hoppes #9, the new stuff isn't at all like the old stuff.
The new stuff isn't anywhere as strong- it doesn't have any really dangerous stuff in it either like the old stuff.

My wife just got me a couple of bottles of Gunzilla but I haven't gotten to try it out yet. It's a CLP and if it works as well as the information that came with it indicates, it should be great and is just what I'm looking for.

Gun cleaning is not nearly as fun for me as it once was so anything that cuts down on the time I spend cleaning is good. I don't enjoy the smell of most solvents (including Hoppes) so products like Gunzilla or Slip 1000 that odorless or have a citrus smell are a plus.

I don't like Hoppes. I've used Shooter's Choice for nearly twenty years. I use no other bore cleaner for normal cleaning.

I was at a shooting event last night, and a lot of the people were using Break Free.
I am going to try it.

I think you can buy it cheaper at your local Toyota dealership as Type-IV transmission fluid. At least, it smells, looks, feels seems to clean the same. I think it is the same stuff...just my hunch.

As for bore cleaner...is that what you give a pig when you want to give him a colonoscopy?

There are hundreds. Do you want one with "no" odor or just something that smells different the #9?

Ballistol has a kind of licorice or Anise smell at first bet then goes away completely. Some folks hate the initial smell some like it. It's non toxic, you can get it on wood , leather plastic etc. Works well for general cleaning, not as aggressive as Hoppes

Midway USA, Brownells, Midsouth etc carries it

The UK website has more info and history on it.

Ballistol Environmentally Friendly Lubricating Oil
