Steyr AUG, Anybody have one?
I wanted to buy this bullpup when they first came out. Finances were thin and I never bought one for the $550.00
asking price . Too $ for the current unemployed situation now.
Anybody have one to comment on?
I always thought it was a good close-quarters design.

I picked up the current A3 back in September. Hadn't handled or used an AUG before, just always had an interest in them. Honestly, they're a game changer to me. 16" barrell in a package just 28 inches long. Redifines "compact". Less muzzle jump than an M4. Proven 42 round mags are nice as well. They're a bit heavier than an M4, but I would probably pick one over the M4s or A2s I used in the past. After sticking a lefty bolt in it, it's as ambidextrous as anything else.
So yeah, I like 'em.

Yeah I seen one of them back when they were new on the market and laughed; until I did research and found out how wicked bad they were. Then I wanted one, now I still do but cannot afford one!

I had one from the 1980 era. I was actively assembling HB AR-15 rifles at the time. The AUG was a great close quarters gun but not near as accurate as my HB ARs. I shot IDPA a couple of times with it. The AUG proved to be no more of a gamesmanship rifle than a short barreled AR. I put it away and ten years later sold it for 3X what I paid. Good investment! Sexy little rifle. Mine had the fixed optical sight. Maybe I would have liked it better if it had been a later model with the changeable rear sight mounts. ........ Big Cholla

I had one, bought in the late 1980's for $600, sold it during the late 1994 Panic for $2500.
I put 16,000 rounds thru it. Had to replace the operating springs once.
I loved it for 3-gun IPSC type competition. Fast as all get out for runnin' and gunnin', much more ergonomic to maneuver with than the AR platform.
I found it extremely accurate with Match .223 ammo. Steyr makes some good barrels.
Biggest detractor in the accuracy was the trigger pull, much akin to the trigger on a Glock compared to single action on a S&W.
Even though I made a ton of $$$ when I sold it, I wish I still had one to play around with.

I love my 16 inch 1991 vintage P version. It's only an inch or so longer than an MP5. The ejection port is at face level so you should research weak hand shooting techniques as you can't throw it on the opposite shoulder like a conventional rifle. Mine's a keeper.
