Still Have Your first Sixgun?
Here's the Ruger Single Six my dad bought for me new in 1970 when I was 13. We found thr rig at the flea market and he modified it to fit me and made a new steal lined holster pouch. We went to a S.F. gunshop and we got the fake pearls for $8. A gunfighter in the movie "The Cullpepper Cattle Co." had a Colt with pearls and looked real cool so that's why. The latest, a reblued 1971 Colt .45. Do you still have your first sixgun? If so, let's see them for old times sake.

WB
My story too except it was my grandad who bought it and I was 14 when I got my Single-Six.
Ruger single actions seem to be a common first handgun for us gun guys.

That is sooooo nice.
I still have my first pistol also. It's a H&R model 649 and I still use it to this day. I got it as a teen around 76 I think when Big 5 sold pistols. It's the only thing I have left that My dad ever got for me so It will never be sold. It has a hunter holster I bought that same day. I'll post pic's later and it looks so old and worn. Mostly used to shoot cans. Killed a rabbit with it once with a super lucky running shot that blew my friends away and gave me a bit of legend status all through Jr High and some of high school.I used to buy my ammo at Two Guys department store for 39 cents a box of 50. Man those were the days

Hey Wyatt, my 1st (good) handgun was a convertable ruger single six in 6 1/2". I bought it new in 1961 or 1962. The interesting thing is I bought those exact same grips for mine. They were made by J Scott.
I probley shot that gun more than most I have since--put together!
Unfortunatly, the gun was stolen in a burglary years ago.
I replaced it with this one made in 1959 and close to unfired.
I belive the last handgun I bought is this colt trooper from allenframe that posts here a year or so ago. I am not near as active buying guns now as years ago. I must have about 5 guns for every different type shooting situation you can think of anyway!

My first, a 27-2 6’ 3T’s, purchased new by working a summer job at a gas station . $300. I was too young, so my dad did a straw purchase for me! It went back to S&W for a tune-up a few years ago.
My latest, the exact same price, at a local auction.

Chad, you were really ahead of your time to want that .357 so bad. Great choice as is your latest one which is on my mental list of things I don't need but want anyway. Ferrillmiller, my Ruger was stolen once by my sister's boyfreind. We went to report the theft and the cop had the gun right there! The idiot used it to shoot holes in a Jack in the Box. My dad got it back right then.

Wyatt, here is another war story. I had a colt .357 trooper. It got stolen. I eventualy got a call from a sheriff detective. A local wild type that I faintly knew was caught with it when he shot over a departing girl friends head! I later worked with and became friends with the old detective when he retired and became a guard at my outfit with me.
Anyway this same character later got 86ed out of a local bar near my house. He went home, got a shotgun and ala john wayne, went back to the bar with the shotgun over his shoulder and told the woman working the joint, he would "have that drink now!"
Just then the bar maids boy friend came in to help her shut down. On hearing the comotion, the guy shot without looking over his shoulder, killing the boyfriend!
Now this character worked at the factory where I was a guard and I knew him but not well. Also for some unknown reason, the miscrant always seemed to like me!
Maybe a year or so after the shooting, I couldnt belive it! He came walking up to my gate to come in to work!
I said something like, Bobby, how in the hell did you get loose? You sure must have got a good lawyer!
He mistakenly thought I was being friendly and told me how he got a change of venue etc, etc,.
He not too much later died of cancer anyway.

I still have one of those scouts from 1960. This ones from 1960. I can only remember takeing it out once. The front sight is so bright nickle I could barely pick it up in the sun. It remains a safe queen.

4" M19-3 still have it. Just a bit of blue wear on the muzzle from when it was my duty weapon... until I could get my hands on a 4" M66-1 which I also still have. Both P&R.

I have my second one, a Ruger Security Six. It has now been customized by Clark with a Douglas barrel and 4 dot ultradot. The Security Six is the best double action Ruger ever made (IMHO) the GP 100 seems pretty gritty by comparison. Billy Ruger said he didn't think he ever made a dime on the Security Sixes. I would like to buy a couple more as they suite me very well. I have my first S&W, a model 14 full underlug.

That was a great gun shop and it was only about 15 minutes from my house. It was a fixture down town.

I don't have my first six shooter however I have a replacement copy of my first six shooter. I bought my first revolver, a used blue 6" Colt Python, for $100 in 1965. I carried the Python as my duty gun until Marine Patrol work and body sweat caused the finish to go bad. The gun shop that I delt with at the time suggested that I have the Python parkerized. The parkerized Python had so many pits on it that it looked like the surface of the Moon. The gun shop didn't have a Python in stock so they gave me a Colt Gold Cup. I carried the Gold Cup with a hardball spring until I bought my first S&W M66.

Security Six
I bought my first handgun in 1977. It was a 4" Stainless Ruger Security Six .357. I bought it new from a local gun shop. I wanted a S&W M66 but they were in short supply back then and cost too much for my meager budget. I have been very happy with my Ruger and still have it and the red and black box it came in. I learned how to shoot a revolver DA with that Ruger. It has had many rounds through it and has been carried a lot and remains as good at the day I bought it.

I bought my first one from a friend of mine , then a few yrs later, I sold it to another friend that it got stolen from . musta been about 26-27 yrs ago . awhile back I bought the same gun to give to my grandson when he gets older . He's only one now , so it will be in the safe for a bit longer . I've been itching to take it out and relive some memories ....LOL!
mine had black grips and I haven't been able to locate any black . So I will have to live with the white ones it came with . Arminius S/S 22LR/22MAG w/white grips . Bottom left .the others are some of my"good guys"wear white collection..45 Taurus,.45 vaquero,.38 S&W lemmon sqeeuzer .

I've still got my first one, a S&W Model 14 purchased at Phifer's Hardware in Shelby NC on my 21st birthday. $240 out the door, I had been saving up quite a while for it.
I read every word Skeeter wrote back then.

First Revolver Blues
Unfortunately, I don't have my first revolver any more. It was a 2" blued Colt Cobra .38 Special, serial number B98062, wearing Herrett Shooting Ace grips, purchased 05/30/1975. It was stolen on 09/10/1975. Sure wish I still had it. It was a sweet little gun, for a Colt. -Ed.

First Sixgun
Yes - When I was around 14 in early 50s, my grandfather gave me the .22 revolver he had carried as part of the NY "Home Guard" [his name for it] in WWI..He required that I not take it out of the house or shoot it til I was 16.
It is a Hopkins and Allen Range Model with original wood grips. Though it was lacking both the front sight and the cylinder pin, I was able to make those and shoot it often with std 22. LRs. Now inoperative, it remains a treasured possession.
Regards,
Dyson
