Happy new year....Ive got large hands but- I dont like Target grips, T-grip, Mculek grips any grip that wont let me get my second finger all the way up against the frame. I know Jerry Mculek can shoot. His grip puts his finger pull in a straight line with the trigger. Thats supposed to be THE best and all that. I got a nice set of Hogue wood for my Mod 36. A little longer than the roundbutt and feel good. But I dont like the way they put my hand farther down on the frame. Whats up with that am I the only one who does not like that? I can shoot my guns fine with Service grips. Target grips are too bulky. Any body else not like them?

Well, the late Elmer Keith (1899-1984) was probably the best known. He favored Magna- shaped grips, preferably of ivory, with carved steer heads to fill his palms.

You can see his grips in his various books. He had short fingers.

I have pretty large hands, but do not like most S&W target stocks. I prefer Pachmayr Presentation rubber grips. But the old Coke-bottle grips are slimmer and work better for me, and Ruger's target grips are good, for the Security-Six. Both the wooden and the rubber Ruger target grips seem very well designed for most shooters.

On the GP-100, I use Pachmayr Grippers, and I use the stock grip on the little SP-101. Blocky, but works.

I do like smooth rosewood service (Magna) stocks and a Tyler adaptor on J-frame guns.

T-Star

I have a gorgeous set of wood Hogues on an N-frame Smith. They feel perfect except the wood comes down just far enough behind the trigger guard to make the gun ride too high for my tastes. Which sounds like your dillemma. Other than that they are great. But they are on a 6 1/2" 24-3 for the time being, anyway. I'm really torn about keeping them on a gun.

Your not alone. I have larger hands with shorter fingers. My favorite grips are Pachmayr Professional Grippers. I have a set of Ajax black pearlite grips for a S&W k frame which I like and have carried on duty. Factory Magnas and service grips are tolerable, factory targets and combats, not so much. Later production combats are a joke. I absolutely hate Hogues of any kind, period. I've tried a set of Jerry Miculeks grips and don't care for them at all. The best wood grips I've ever had were made by Mustang, but I have only seen one set of them, which I still have, but they have a chunk missing from them.

What it all boils down to is, everyone if different. Just hope you can find something you like and get as many as you can.

I have really big hands, and I got sick of having the knuckle of my middle finger of the strong hand get smacked by the back of the trigger guard. My J-Frame model 36 and my Colt D-Frame Det. Special both wear Tyler Ts. I had the same problem with the L-frames and the N-Frames. Hogue grips made all the difference in the world. Rubber finger groove grips for the model 29-3 and Kingwood single finger groove grip for the 686-5. The 28-2 Highway Patrolman came with rubber Pachs that are comfortable to shoot.

I would like to have the correct original grips for all three of these just to have them, but I don't think that I would want to shoot the guns wearing them. (I have the correct grips on the model 36, but with the Tyler-T.)

I wear a size Large glove with long, slender fingers and the Kurac cokes fit my hand very well. Oddly enough, another grip that fits me well is the much-maligned 70s-era S&W target grip. Very few people seem to like them, but they feel great to me.

Wheely I have a mod 36 rb and a pre historic Tyler-T Ive never actually tride the T grip on. Ill see what its like in place of the Hogue woodies. I may not like it either but Ill check. I can sympathise with your middle finger problem getting hit with the trigger guard. Those type of grips just seem to block my middle finger from going where it feels natural. Thanks for the suggestion.....
