any of you fine folks out there can tell me your thoughts on luquid bearings S&W synthetic oil. it is advertised on ebay as the best gun oil. Upon further study I have found it to be used solely by train and slot car hobbyist. Do any of you recomend it for guns now that I purchased two bottles before researching it completely like I normally do. Thanks, Roch

I haven't used that product in particular, but for high pressure, high shear lubrication there's virtually NO standard mineral based product that can come anywhere near the synthetics. It is now used extensively and in some cases exclusively, in most high end and high stress devices. If they're good enough to protect the final drives in a crawler, transfer case in a 4 X 4, or differential in a race car, it's good enough for me!

Sadly, the best synthetics still do not measure up to the whale oil based lubes available up till the 1960s.

To answer the original question, call S&W customer service and ask the folks there. They do a good job of answering tech questions, and they sure know the guns you want to use it on.

I find it interesting that when drops of Mobile 1 hit a plastic funnel they become as little ball bearings and roll down as opposed to dino oil that splatters, clinging to the plastic while gravity tears on the cohesion.

I'll give you that M-1 in only one area, automatic transmission fluid.
The whale based stuff was so good, it could actually be filtered of shrapnel and re-used! I can't believe the number of younger folks that think I'm blowing smoke up their butt's over the original ATF being whale! But now we're a more "civilized" nation. Seems to be working out fine, huh?

Learned something new, never really heard anything about Whale oil before and Im not really all that young. Too bad it cant be had anymore.
