Search for Provenance
Some years ago, I acquired this Colt from my 'smith. I remember it as being offered for sale, he is just as sure that I had him order it.
It's too big for me to shoot comfortably with my teensy hands, BUT!, it has a great DA trigger! After all this time, I happened to have my magnifiers on, and saw some printing where S&W puts their 4-line address. Quite small, but it says NMH CO. SAC CA. On the butt it says No.C 92. I asked twaits about it, and he kindly directed me to
Wyatt Burp. Turns out it's an import mark for when it came back to
this country. The gun itself is a Colt Police Positive Special,
SN 6376xx, from 1953, with 4" bbl.
How it got to Wisconsin is the next of two questions, the first being:
where'd it get shipped off to.
More later, this is a work in progress. TACC1

So, now it turns out that NMH was New Helvetia Mercantile Co.
The address of 2215 J Street was also the home of the "Old Armoury Gun Shop". Out of business now. At one time they were importing
Thai Police M1 Carbines, and more recently, UZI's.
Helvetia means Switzerland I guess.
There were several companies located at this address, but was
well known as a good gunshop. Still don't know the "imported from"
country. Thanks go out to twaits and Wyatt Burp.

How about that. I always thought Provenance was in Rhode Island.
Oh yeah, cool piece.

Yup, used to get me hairs cut at the Salon du Provence. Beast of a commute from Ohio (long, wet walk) but the scones were to DIE for.
ETA this thread drift was brought to you by Thorazine, or lack thereof.
Good luck in you search for the Colt's history and please keep us posted.

Thorazine!?!? I always thought that reality was an illusion caused by an alcohol deficiency.

I thought Helvetia was a font in my word perfect program.
Thorazine is bad for you-too many side effects-got to take that cogenten. I reccomend a more mainstream pharmacutical-like alprozolam. Smooooooooooooooooooooooth

"It's too big for me to shoot comfortably with my teensy hands,..."
Gosh, the PPS is a Colt D frame, which is smaller than a S&W K frame.

You might want to get a Colt "Archive" letter on this gun. The number for that section is (800) 962-(Colt) 2658 ext. 1343
The cost is $75.00 for that model

Thanks again!
Maybe a letter would be a good idea. At least find the general direction it started going.
No more morphine for me, seems to make time stand still; not
the best choice in a hospital bed. 'Sides, there's lots better stuff
out there. TACC1
