So, what is your grail gun?
Most recently, I've posted that I managed to acquire one of my "grail" guns and we see these posts on occasion from others. Got me to thinking about this thread. So, what is that you have your eye's pealed for and, when you do find it, what's next?

Great question, mod34. Can I have more that one? I hope so! It's kind of a tie. M686, 3" no lock; M13, 3"; M12, 2"RB, M27, 3-1/2" or 5". I'm partial to short/rare barrels!

Model 15, 2" square butt in nickle. With a .400 smooth trigger and a .500 target hammer.
Model 16, 4" blue. With the same hammer and trigger as above.
Any pre-MIM S&W I can get my hands on.

A 3'' or 2.5'' 586 or Lew Horton 44 or 41 magnum blued or stainless does not matter.

Are these guns that we may potentially be able to get, or are these guns that were produced that we lust for and know that we will never be able to have? The search for the Holy Grail has went on for centuries with out having been fulfilled after all.

Cajunlawyer,
I agree. I had no idea I wanted one of those until I saw that post. It's gotta kick like a bitch tho'. I once tried patterning a 3" A-5 from a bench and it liked to kicked my teeth out. That recoil operating system lets you know when you pull the trigger!

A Remington 4-S Military Model in .22 Long in 100% condition.
A Stevens Walnut Hill would be second.

Maybe its the romantic ...well whatever it is, in me, but I look upon grail guns as a constantly evolving ever moving target ...
As soon as I finally possess my grail gun, I covet another and the process begins anew ...
Lately it has been a Sig P210

I just got it a week and a half ago. Better yet, I got it from one of our good forum members here in Georgia!
My favorite revolver has always been my chopped, 3 1/4" barreled, M25-2 .45ACP revolver. I've always wanted a nice Model 27 with the 3 1/2" barrel to complement it.
Well, here it is, IMHO the most beautiful model and barrel length S&W revolver ever made . . . and it is everything and more that I was dreaming of . . . a pristine Model 27-2 from the very early '70s.
I'm a blessed man indeed!!!
Here's some eye candy, using my just made light box to help with taking the photos . . .
May all of you still looking for your grail gun find it soon!
Tom

Tom ,I like the way you think. I traded a n.i.b. 6" model 16-4 for this one.
But ,,the grail gun is a 44 triplelock in good ,clean shootable condition.
This model 625-7 P.C. in 45 Colt was a grail gun for a loooong time, but I found one on G.b. last year.
How about a Ladysmith target with 6" barrel. A friend owns this one ,but will not let it go.
Just saw a 2" nickel model 12-3 round butt in a local shop yesterday ,,I'm going to have to go back today and get it.
Regards , Allen Frame

I have one and only one. It’s a M14 produced by Winchester. I’d just like to handle one more time.

A pre 26, 1905 4th change target 38 and a 1917 to replace the ones I had to let go to keep up with the ex's spending.
A 24 or pre 24 would be nice.
I did find a NIB 624 about 2 years ago.

This may seem odd:
A standard barrel ("pencil") 4-inch Model 64.
Except for pictures, in 38 years I've never seen one in the flesh.

I used to think there was such a thing as a grail gun but once you have it there is always something else. I thought an early K32 was it. K58963. Fifth known survivor. 98%. Then the target triple lock. 942. According to Roy a special gun. Haven't lettered it yet. Lazy. Then the two ISP 5" k14's, one from the first shipment, one from the second. Or the Pre 19 from the first hundred made. k260082. It never ends. God bless S&W. They have saved me from wasting money on my 401K.

I think a grail gun is something you really don't think you will ever have. So to me, most regular production S&Ws since 1945 wouldn't be one. Although I really want some (or most) of them. I agree with Andy Griffith, that a Stevens Walnut Hill is on my list. I've only seen a picture of one once, and I think that was on this forum. Some others that I lust for are: A Winchester 42, plain barrel, a fine English sidelock double rifle in something around .500 BPE., and 8 .50 caliber machine guns with a P-47D wrapped around them.

Since I'm in the selling off mode and not buying anymore it's a moot point but I'd like to own these:
WW1 Colt 1911
Winchester 1895 military
40s/50s era Winchester Model 70
Krag rifle
