I need a little advice from ya'll. My Ruger Red Label finally broke one of the ejectors (I'd heard it was bound to happen eventually) so I called Ruger for return instructions. Customer service told me to box it up, put in all my info and ship it to them via FedEx, UPS or USPS. They said they didn't issue any type of RGA number or anything until it arrived at their door. I know I'll have the shipper's tracking number but does this sound right? I'm sure ya'll have done it...is this the best way? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, that sounds right. I've had good luck mailing long guns.

Sometimes you can talk Ruger into paying the shipping both ways. You might want to talk to Customer Service again and ask for a supervisor. They may send you a shipping label.

do yourself a favor and put it in a softcase, surrounded by padding of some type, then put it in a hardcase and secure it well. Lastly, do not use UPS.

I sent shotguns to Ruger several times, I paid the shipping there, they paid to ship it back to me.

Have shipped via USPS and DHL (when they were around). USPS may give you some grief and questions, but the last time I sent one, it was legal to ship to the factory for repair and have it return shipped to your door. Obviously without an FFL in sight. A buddy just recently shipped via USPS and they questioned him because it was a firearm. He simply requested a supervisor and the supervisor advised the counter clerk that it was not a problem, which resolved the issue.

I have heard that UPS is not a good way to ship firearms too.

UPS is a great way to ship long guns if you want a broken stock. I know from experience. Unless they pack what you are shipping, no matter how well you pack it if it's damaged they will say it was improperly packed and won't make good on an insurance claim.

I've shipped long guns by USPS with no problems. Shipped a handgun to Colt by UPS last week. Their only requirement was that it had to go by their Next Day service. Expensive at around $58, but it arrived at Colt the next day.

Thanks for the advice...I think I'll go with the USPS since I live so far away from a UPS store. I'll heed the warning to pack it well and then pack it again.
