Why do people post in yours ads that they will buy something and then they don't. Then they don't have the decency to let you know.You wait over a week for MO and it doesn't show.If they never intended on buying it in the first place what makes them do it.

dunno. had it happen to me. Had one guy tell me (not on here) "I'll take it." Then, when I sent payment address he said his fiance` said no. Left a REAL bad taste in my mouth.

Bad things is I could have sold it to someone else but he said he would take it first,so I gave him first shot.Now the one other person has already purchased some and doesn't need it.Lost a sell because of the idiot.

me too. first guy was waiting on money to come in and said sell if you can, when "engaged guy" backed out so did the first guy. Bummer...

Buy indicating " I'll take it", you agree to the price and terms of the item for sale.

Lots of people are just talkers.

Many times their eyes are bigger than their wallet. Sometimes they can do anything / buy anything they want as long as it`s OK with their wife. Had that happen to me once.

Watch the news, read a paper...study the whackos at your local coffee shop and you will find the answer....

I think that most of us have experienced "buyer's remorse" after some purchase. Usually we get over it and move on; realizing that we really did buy what we wanted. In the case of the people who back out after giving their commitment, I expect that they experienced that feeling before they sent their money. That is no excuse for their actions. There are certainly circumstances which arise that impact a decision, but at the very least, the potential buyer should have the courtesy to give a detailed explanation to the seller. Whether the seller accepts that explanation is his/her decision based on the circumstances.

To be fair, there is another side of the coin. It often occurs that a seller will back out of a confirmed sale with some weak excuse leaving the buyer hanging out--often a sign that they were successful in selling their product at a higher price.

In both cases, it is a negative reflection on the character of the person who backs out.

If the explanation is plausible in either case, I would accept it and move on. If it isn't, the one who backs out should be noted as someone to be cautious with in any future dealings.

It seems to happen to me about 50% of the time. I get some really lame excuses. I've quit selling guns on this forum for that reason.

Maybe we sould start a Lame Excuse thread.

What gets me also are potential buyers who want to buy the item for much less than posted by the seller. I just wait for a BTT with a lower price listed.

those of us that do not understand that behavior are also the ones who would not do it. there are all kinds of people in this world, be happy your're not one of them.

I was at the Tulsa gunshow several years ago and watched a guy dicker a dealer down on a pistol and then said well I'm going to look a little more the dealer said "You come back here and this will cost you a heck of a lot more" I had to agree with the seller. Jeff

It's unfortunate but people tend to back out on deals more when it's not in person. It's easier just to ignore e-mails or walk away from forums for awhile. I think it's in bad character, I have been jerked around that way before on a deal. If you don't have the money or don't really want to sell it just forget about it, that's the reality of it. Some people just have fantasies I guess.

After a couple days of e-mail pics and phone negotiating, a guy told me that he decided to buy a motorcycle I had for sale. He said he was headed out the door to the Post Office to mail me a $250.00 check so I would hold the bike till the following weekend. Check didn't come. I thought about calling or e-mailing to see what was up but I didn't want to put him on the spot. I just waited to hear from him-- never did. I sold the bike a couple weeks later.

Once the bike was sold I thought about sending him a nasty-gram that I had sold the bike and what I thought about him not having the decency to let me know he had backed out. I didn't... figured why bother.

About a month later I got a call from a woman saying that she was his wife. She called to apologize for not getting back to me about the bike. She said she knew about the deal and that he was so very excited about getting my bike. Unfortunately, she had been busy with his funeral and things...
