Default Sample selection of courses offered at a regional shooting school:

Sample selection of courses offered at a regional shooting school:

One day Defensive Shotgun ammunition required (35) Buckshot (35) Slug & (325) Birdshot

One day Defensive Handgun ammunition required (600) rounds

One day Basic Carbine ammunition required (500) rounds

Two day Defensive Carbine ammunition required (500) rounds rifle & (400) rounds pistol.

395 shotgun rounds in one day if nothing else you’re going to do a lot of shooting. 600 handgun rounds in one day it seems a bit excessive to me. My thoughts are volume in a compressed schedule doesn’t necessarily equal quality but then maybe I’m wrong.

Wouldn't be excessive if the shotgun was full-auto.... just uncomfortable.

Around the 500th round a new idea of 'tactical awareness' begins to dawn....

I do believe that if I were taking that shotgun course, I would use a 410. With a 12 gage, even if it's only birshot, 325 rounds is going to take a toll. I'm with you Dennis, the number of rounds downrange isn't nearly as important as the number of good hits. As far as the handgun requirement goes, I can burn through 200 rounds in an hour at the range, so 600 is doable. However, lately I've been thinking that I might get more out of my range time if I spend some time thinking about what I may be doing wrong instead of just blazing away.

I don't subscribe much to the "spray and pray" method. Those sights are there for a purpose.
