I guess I have owned or now own all that would make my list. GI 1911A1, Nickel plated Python, Model 19 P&R, Model 60 (no dash), pre-Model 17, Model 63, 3-screw Ruger Blackhawk .45, Mountain Gun .45, birth-year M&P S&W. I have all those now. The three handguns I let get away that I wish I still had are an early 70s Colt Commander, an early 70s Model 27, and a very early, 4 digit serial number flat-top Ruger .357 Blackhawk.

I would also have to include the various K-frames and J-frames. Ten ain't enough!

I have a class coming in from lunch. I'll have to list the long guns later.

Talking The list is complete

Both top 10's are in the vault. I have affordable lists and good luck finding them.

There is just one more to get, when I see it. That's the complement to, "How many guns do you need?" Just one more. Free beer tomorrow!!

Hmmm, interesting mental exercise. I had to "stretch" a bit on the pistols, but I could keep adding rifles until dawn.

Handguns (in no particular order):

1. Early Colt SAA in .45 Colt
2. Luger P'08 in 9mm
3. Browning Hi-Power in 9mm
4. Glock 19
5. S&W .22 Combat Masterpiece
6. 4-inch S&W Model 19 or 586
7. "Spiffy" 1911, probably Les Baer
8. Nice USGI 1911A1
9. Colt Woodsman
10. 4-inch S&W Model 29, "-2" or earlier

Long guns (in no particular order)

1. Nice side-by-side double in 20 gauge
2. SMLE No.1 MkIII
3. High-number '03 with a "C" stock, ideally Springfield or Rock Island
4. 1874 Sharps in .45-70
5. Nice flintlock longrifle, probably .45 caliber
6. Nice flint or percussion fowler in 20 gauge
7. Kar 98k
8. Good 12 gauge pump with a short barrel
9. Good bolt action .22 with peep sights
10. Springfield or Enfield .58-caliber rifle-musket

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Ron H.

Sure, I'll play.

Long guns

Top of the list is a gun that I've wanted since I saw it in a copy of Guns magazine in 1986 or thereabouts. I would have been 12 years old. Back then, they cost the princely sum of 7800 good American dollars. These days, when the dollar isn't so good against the Euro, the entry level models go for more like 19 grand. That would of course be a Heym double rifle in .470 NE. You can always download the .470 of course, but I'd want to take advantage of two unique options that the Heym offers. The first is that one can get a second set of fitted rifle barrels in another caliber. I'd opt for .30-06. The second option is that you can also get a set of 20 gauge shotgun barrels fitted, which I'd do. Gun like that is good for most anything.

Number two - a ratty old Winchester lever gun in .44 WCF like one I saw in a pawn shop years ago for 400 bucks and passed on. Doh.

Number three - another old character worn Winchester in something old but that ammo can still be had for - .25-20, .25-35, .38-55, something like that.

Number four - another old Krag sporter to replace the one that I traded. Those things are just neat.

Number five - a trapdoor 1884 Springfield, or even one someone made into an ersatz carbine. There's one sitting in the museum here behind glass. When I first saw it, I thought that there ought be a sign that say to break glass in case the Apaches came.

Number Six - A bolt gun, maybe a Dakota, in .416 Rigby. I guess the cheaper CZ would work in a pinch, but I like the look of the Dakotas. Useful chamberin, if a bit eclectic.

Number Seven - a WW2 Thompson, expensive, but not like there are going to be any more. One would probably sell for about what the Navy sees fit to pay my wife in a year. Originally, I think the government brought them for what a Paratrooper made in a month.

Number eight - A big bore Marlin that I'd get customized by WWG in Anchorage.

Number nine - a nice old pre 64 Model 70 in .30-06. The quintessential rifleman's rifle.

Number ten - another Colt SP1 to replace the one that I traded off.

Handguns -

A new Colt SAA in .45 Colt or .44-40 to replace the one that I traded. Current production is fine

2. A factory nickel steel frame Colt Commander from 1974

3. Same year, same nickel, full size series 70

4. A nice old Colt D frame 4" .38 special to use up a set of grips that I have.

5. Another of the above for another set of grips.

6. A Colt pocket positive snub in nickel, a neat little .32.

7. A new Browning Hi Power MkIII two tone

8. A new German made Sig P220 two tone, no rail or what not. Both seven and eight would replace guns that I had to sell when I got married.

9. A LNIB nickel 15-3 4". Same story as the above two.

10. An FN 5.7 pistol. Everyone else around here has one for some reason. I guess I should too.
