.22 cal pistol or revolvers are fun. Of course, if it is my wife, a good back rub does the job.

That K-32 would be good for a new shooter, low recoil and good sights.
I think the 6 inch barrel is good, a snubnose is terrible to start with.

Like dave b said, a 4' Model 63 is nice in a revolver, or the p-22
in a pistol. If she doesn't mind a single action revolver, try a
Ruger Bearcat. The actions are not as nice as a well used S&W, but
they are a pleasure to shoot and handle. I would rather shoot
my Bearcat than my Mod 63, just because it seems "right" to me.
I think the Bearcat weighs about 24 ounces, IIRC.

Gotta agree w/ Barb. My wife rolled her eyes when I bought one "for our daughter", but everyone likes shooting it.

I assume you're talking about a gun.
If your friend has never shot before, I'd suggest a 22 revolver, like the Mod 63. Lots of fun, no recoil, and cheap to shoot.

I also recommend a Walther P22 for informal plinking and target practice. My wife loves hers and my kids started out shooting it at very young age.

Default For smaller hands

M36 Kit Gun, in .22. Load it up with .22 shorts to start-For protection put Long Rifle High Speed Hollow Points. I like my 36s as much as my M17s-If you want a bigger frame : Combat Master Piece.
Or a M36 in .38 Special-but load it up with .38 shorts (I think they're .38 Colt)-no recoil-
I prefer revolvers for safety fundamentals-plus smaller hands-or older ones like mine-sometimes have trouble pulling slides-clearing stoppages-

There's nothing more versatile than a .357 mag revolver.
Even if you don't reload there's plenty of options. A box of .38 spl wadcutters are cheap, superbly accurate and recoil little more than a .22. Lots of midrange loads in .38 special and full on bad***** loads in .357. Take your pick.

If you advance past the .22 stage, I recommend a 3913 Lady Smith. While it is 9mm, it must be one of the easiest to shoot 9 mm pistols going for someone with smaller hands. Absolutely reliable. I would think it is all-around one of the easiest to conceal as well. Even with 147 gr +p, I would not call it very snappy.

I would suggest a "riding" lawnmower. Getting her out from behind that old push mower shows that you care.

I find the double action triggers on J-frames to be horrible, so no I would not get her a J-frame 22. Double action revolvers are meant to be shot double action at least some of the time and I prefer most of the time.

Hard to beat either Ruger’s .22 auto loading pistol or 10-22 rifle. If money is not an issue a nice AR-15 with an equally nice Aimpoint red dot sight to go with the lawn mower.

Charlie, I thought about that for my wife, but then I realized that walking in circles around the yard was helping to keep her trim and keep her legs toned. Since I know she's awful concerned about her health, I decided that the riding lawnmower was not in her best interest, and bought several more guns instead.

Now I'm mowing the lawn and saving for a riding mower.

To the OP: for a lady or not, if you want low recoil it's tough to beat .22LR in nearly any kind of gun. A beefier .38 or .357 loaded with .38s is also a great choice (Model 27 or 28, R***r SP101). Sounds like this is a primarily a range toy, so .22 has the added benefit of being inexpensive to shoot!
