regarding the icindent and the guys rant.. i'm not saying its right, but i understand.

The report I saw says there were 190 IRS employees in the building so it must be a satellite office. The regional IRS Service Center (where we send our returns) is much bigger than that.

I found it interesting that this is not widely being defined as an act of terrorism.

The act was driven by hate of the US govt. A public proclamation was made stating that violence against the govt was the only course of action. Then a plane was flown into a govt building. If that isn't an act of terrorism, what is?

To my mind, "terrorism" requires an element of either conspiracy or repetition. A single angry individual with the power to do damage one time and the inability to restrain himself from doing so is not a terrorist. He is a criminal. A single individual who undertakes a series of destructive acts may be a terrorist, but is not necessarily one. A group of individuals who plot a single destructive act but die or disappear afterwards may be terrorists, but may not be.

I'm still not sure that small conspiracies rise to the level of terrorism. The two or maybe three guys that put together the Oklahoma City bombing were driven by anger and who knows what else, but they seem to have been interested in striking back at what they hated as independent actors, not in spreading a philosophy or calling others to their cause.

Ultimately, terrorism is something that spreads terror. If a violent act or threat of a violent act spreads no significant amount of dread or fear, it cannot be a terrorist act. I felt no terror at yesterday's news.

Footnote: This incident should never have happened anywhere, but I am saddened that it happened in Austin, a city I very much like. I was born there nearly two-thirds ofa century ago, and some of my earliest memories are of playing in the backyard of my grandmother's house about three miles south of yesterday's attack site.

I have a Marine staying with me for two weeks after Boot Camp. I certainly hope that conspiracy or repetition do not define a terrorist.

As the philosophers and logicians say, "necessary condition, but not sufficient condition."

Please thank the Marine for his service commitment. He'll know what to do when he sees a terrorist.

I had a Marine spend a weekend in my house. She was quite cute, but would not cook. Then she was deployed.

Anyways, the IRS isn't going anywhere.
That guy wasted his time and his life.

Will do. And I'm sure he'll know what to do. Though... from hearing about some of the rules of engagement... I'm not totally convinced that those at the top know what to do when he sees one.

This is what happens when we allow people to buy and use airplanes.
We need sensible controls on who can buy or use airplanes - background checks, 7 day waiting periods, purchase permits based on need as determined by the Government ... you know the drill.

As the news said-if this would had happened in Iraq,Afghanistan,Israel etc. he would be called a suicide bomber-a terrorist in my eyes.Was i "terrorized"yeah-got a son working in another government building not too far by plane from there-and no he wouldn't deserve to be injured or die anymore than the 67 YR old man that did.This nut must not of been in dire financial straits if he owned an airplane.Another blatant misuse of our rights and freedoms in our great country****les and laws don't show up until there is a problem or someone screws up.Whats the answer forbid all private planes?-NO, this same attack with a tanker truck carrying 100 times more fuel is possible.Forbid all tanker trucks?-NO.A sick individual with guns surely could have killed more people,forbid all guns-NO.With the freedoms and rights we have these tragedies will continue to happen.Hopefully these things will not punish the law abiding aircraft,truck,gun owner etc. It's the bad people ,not the machine that must be held responsible.And shame on the people that are calling this man a hero,patriot or whatever,he was a sick coward that killed another person he didn't know or have a personal problem or connection to.Would or could this even happen in another country that is not in a war zone or one of severe political unrest-I don't think so.Freedom and rights can be safe- freedom and rights can be unsafe.I the present laws were enforced as they should be-illegal border crossings,felonies with firearms ,cheating the government,tax benefits for corps. sending jobs overseas and unfair trade we might all be a little safer and have a few dollars left at the end of the month.This rant is over-Thank you
