Default cd player

the cd player (factory) in my 2004 Chevy Colorado all of a sudden won't eject the cd (Jimi Hendrix , Live at Berkeley). I push the eject button and it growls a little bit and the display says "check cd". the owners manual as you would suspect doesn't cover this problem. the dealer says all they can do is send it to the factory. any ideas on how to get the cd out?

Is there a tiny hole on the faceplate that you can stick a pin or paper clip in to eject the CD? If not, you might have to take the whole head unit out and dis-assemble it to get at the CD.

Found this.....Might be worth a try......

Good luck!

the methods being used don't sound like the cd will be saveable or if the cd player will ever work again even if I do get it out. I had to replace the factory stereo in a S-10 I had years ago and it looks like that may happen. I will have to see how much the dealer and factory wants to fix it and go from there. thanks

The in-dash 6 disc changer in my Pathfinder decided to keep a CD last year.
I went ahead and bought a new stereo, and then took the old one apart and got the CD out.
No damage to the disc, and wasn't hard to remove it, either.

Default stop

This might be the answer. Press the stop button first then press eject.
If the laser is still engaged and the CD is spinning it can't eject.
Give it a try.

Use a credit card you don't need and insert it into the CD Slot while pressing the eject button. Move the credit card back and forth and side to side.

It could take a minute or two free up but keep trying and the CD will finally come out.

Let us know how you do...

I noticed on the colorado truck forum that somebody recommended taking out the radio fuse for about 30 seconds or so and that worked. now if I can just find where the fuse box is. hopefully the weather is a little warmer tomorrow but then that won't take much. we will see what happens

Steveno,

Please post an update when you get a chance. The CD changer in my wife's 05 Tahoe went out under warranty, and now my single disc CD player in my 05 Silverado has gone out in the same manner as yours. I've heard guys say the factory wants $400 for a replacement, which is crazy.

The factory stereo in my 2005 Tahoe ate a CD last year. They kept it for a couple of weeks and finally replaced it with a rebuilt for $595. They did recover the CD out of the old one.

for some reason I should have known better than to think that just by removing the fuse for 30 seconds would fix the problem and it didn't. I will have to stop at an auto audio place and Kearney and see if they can get the cd out

Wrap a credit card with Duct Tape (sticky side out) and carefully try to catch the CD and pull it out.

Go to Best Buy, spend $250 on a decent, professionally installed aftermarket unit, and ask the geek that installs it to get your Hendrix out for you.

I can't even imagine spending >$500 for a "factory" stereo. There's much better stuff out there for a whole lot less money.

Best Buy is definitely an option. you right in that I'm not going to spend the money the dealer wants for a factory unit.

My wife's '04 Trailblazer, which I think is much the same electronically as your Colorado has had the same problem a couple of times. I was told by my parts house friend to disconnect the battery to reset the computer that takes care of the non-engine functions-it has fixed that problem.Maybe you will be lucky and this free fix will work too.
