Default Which of your hand guns fits your hand the best

Including both revolvers and semi-automatics, which of your guns "fits your hand" the best?

From my perspective, this means feeling natural and comfortable when assuming a good shooting position. It also means pointing naturally on both the first and followup shots.

For me, out of the Smiths, Springers, Sigs and Berettas that I own, my Beretta PX4 with a Hogue HandAll slip on grip is the hands down winner. This setup gives me a high firm grip the minute that I pick it up, and I never have to "double clutch" it to get it "right".

I can achieve very good accuracy with it consistently. Although I can do somewhat better with my 952, Model 41 or Springer 1911... the PX4 is the gun that I have by my bed and know that I could most readily hit with in a pressure situation.

Not sure whether it's the grip, the grip angle, the balance, or the height of the "beaver tail" that makes the big difference. BTW, I kept the medium backstrap that came on the gun rather than trading it out for the larger or smaller options.

While this is one of the least expensive guns that I own, it really works for me.

I recognize that almost everybody's hand is different and this is just a matter of personal preference and opinion... but I'd like to hear what works for others and why.

My S&W 5906 with Crimson Trace Lasergrips fits my hand the best. It fills my hand completely, don't feel like my hand overwraps/underwraps the grip, and my fingers don't hang below the mag well. The arched backstrap feels natural, and doesn't cause fatigue in my hands--even with rhuematoid arthritis.

I am hoping to find some Palm Swell grips to add to my 4566TSW, in hopes that it will feel more natural.

Kimber 1911 full size gripframe. I say Kimber becaause it has a grip safety without a hump on it. I don't care for the grip safety's with a hump, but I do prefer a checkered front strap & mainspring housing (metal, not plastic). So, all I have to do to a Kimber is change the mainspring housing.

My 2.5" 66-2 with Hogue Bantams. Like it was made for me.

In semi auto's, my 3913, again with Hogue grips. Feels molded to my hand. Regards 18DAI.

I was fortunate to be trained by the US Army Marksmanship Training Unit as a pistol shooter/instructor in the 1970’s. One of the things covered was handgun fit. I had been doing it all wrong before, relying on how the gun “felt” (subjective) in my hand rather than how my hand interacted (objective) with the pistol.

The Government Model .45’s with a flat mainspring housing, standard size grip panels, and “as-issued” grip safety allows my hand to fit to the pistol with minimal disturbance to the pistol.

Peace,

Default Best fit?

My hand likes the 1911 best, but I think it just muscle memory. The sigma really fits much better, but when I pick it up my hand seems to look for 'home'. I think with some time these new polys will be a fit.

I know what you mean...I think my P2000 fits my hand better than the HP but the HP feels better I guess due to the steel frame...Polys (and to some extent alloys) always feel a bit top heavy, even if the grip is perfect...

My Model 41 fits my hand like the grips had been custom made just for me... come to think of it, they were. Dick Horton did a really good job.

The gun/grip combo that fits my hand best by far is the K & L-frame Smiths with the older style Target stocks. The sweetest handling handgun I own is a 6" M19.

I also like the feel of a 1911 with a flat mainspring housing a lot.

S&W M-66-3 with Pachmayr Presentations. It also balances very well with the four-inch bbl. It is my candidate for the best all-round handgun.

Among autos, the Colt Govt. Model with arched housing, although the CZ -75 is close. The Beretta M-92FS with the slightly upswept receiver (dust cover) and the radiused grip feels MUCH better than the basic M-9, although the differences are so subtle that they are hard to detect in photos.

In .22's, I favor my Ruger MK II bull bbl. I added factory wooden stocks.

Same for me. No flat housing, no long trigger, please.

In .22s, most Model 41s are good in that department, but of course using the safety on a 41 is a two-handed proposition.

A good old S&W Model 39 for an auto and any three inch K frame with Hogue round butt compacts for a revolver. Both combos feel like they were custom built for my hands.

Colt 1877 DA. Feels just right, ideal grip size, points natuarly. Not real practical, but then that wasn't the question.

For a revolver I would have to say my 3" 66-2 with Hogue Bantams. For an auto, either my 3913 or my 3914 . Both wear Hogue rubber grips.

S&W Model 41. Then Model 39. Third place goes to a Ruger Security Six with Hogue grips.

Mine would be my Model 581 cut down to a round butt with the old style S&W factory finger groove combat grips (what Kim Ahrends sells as S&W "retro" style). Feels like an extension of my hand rather than something in it.

Colt 2000, best of any gun I ever tried or had. My Makita drill is a close second. I'll put in the worst too, the Glock 20. In revolver grips, I like the Jerry Miculeks and the factory Ruger Redhawk grips, and I hate nframe target stocks, also the grips that came with the 3" Lew Horton 610. Terrible.

Very interesting... after 44 responses, the Browning Hi-Power got a nod from eight.

That's a surprise to me and wasn't what I was expecting when I started the thread. I know the Hi-Power is beautiful, a classic and a sentimental favorite.... but never thought that it would offer the 'best hand fit'.

I can't remember ever shooting one, but the responses have given me the 'itch' now. Thanks for the responses so far.

Govt Model 1911 with arched MSH. First time I ever picked one up it was an instant fit. Like and old sweater.

40 years later, I haven't found anything better.
