A little Off Topic but the post about parts made in India reminded me of a catastrophic failure of a freeway lampposts in St. Louis when I lived there.
Seems a guy was driving down the freeway when suddenly one of the lampposts fell on his car the worst way and killed him. The bolts holding the post up had just sheered off. Turns out that some bean counter had determined you could buy bolts made in India and save money.
The factory that made the bolts did not build them to any specs, but just put lines on them as if they were rated to the required specifications. All the posts had to be taken down and repaired with bolts of the proper strength. So the bean counter actually drove up the cost of the project, not to mention getting somebody killed.
