If you know where this is on the Columbia River (eastern Oregon/Washington) then you know where a great walleye hole is.

This was my son's first time in a train tunnel.

Next time, he'll have to ride the train through one.

Lost it all in a boat accident

There are stories of good rolling stock that serviced the gold mines in E. Oregon that were hidden in tunnels in order to preserve them for better times. The tunnel ends dynamited track sold for scrap when the mines were closed in the 30's or 40's.

the thinking on this tunnel (which is in Plymouth, Washington) is that it was punched through and rails laid to run services to the McNary dam when it was being built.

p.s. of course I was carrying my S&W 5904 for the snakes (both varieties, reptilian and the two legged variety sometimes called human) that my family and I might have encountered on our trek as Rattlers tend to bask in the sun by the river and less than savory individuals used to use the tunnel for their clandestine activities.
