Original #1 Batmobile goes for 4.2 Million!
Not bad for a nostalgic memory.

If I had the means, I would buy it and convert it back to it's original state as the the Ford Futura show car. Mainly just to piss off the all the Batman freaks. Good Lord what a stupid show that was.

I guess that kind of coin for a living room piece isn't much different than spending it on a pricey painting as a wall hanging.

You kidding?
If I spent nearly that much it wouldn't be a painting that was hanging!

WHY???? I'd drive it to work! If you have a business, you'd be suprised just how many customers would call on you just to see it or even get behind the wheel for a picture in it. Yes, the original show was dumb...but the car is a work of art and an icon.

Don't know exactly how many Batmobiles were built for and used on the show , but this was #1 and supposedly remained with George Barris. IIRC , it had a very small fuel capacity , something like 2gal.
BTW, I'm a big fan of the Barrett-Jackson auction and love watching and fantasizing about the cars. Which brings me to wonder just what some of these people do for a living that they can throw down that kinda money for cars which they'll probably never drive. And some of them buy several cars per weekend.
Certainly many of those old muscle cars with up to 13.5:1 compression need high octane (110) leaded gas to run properly. They'd ping and knock themselves to death on todays eco-friendly ethanol-blended pump swill.

Yeah , but if you and your friends were like me and mine , we unexpertly 'modified' and beat the heck out of those cars. Plus the road salt from PA winter finished the job.

I'm a long time car guy. Vettes and muscle cars (old or new) are a big part of my life. I watched the show and it is just amazing to see the people with much more money than brains doing their thing
The B.J. people have their money extortion well worked out. Shills planted to bid up certain cars, plenty of free booze to bidders, plenty of eye candy (AKA pretty girls/models) and a chance to show who has the biggest phallic symbol on national TV.
When big time millionaires get into action the price of these vehicles is blown out into the stratosphere. Makes it kind of rough for average car guy or even slightly above average car guy to purchase things as no way can you compete. Another bad thing unless it’s a serious dealer many of these cars end up in a private museum and are never see again until the rich guy needs more room and sells it. That could be years or decades later.

I stopped attending gun auctions for the very same reason. Ravens & Jennings going over $200 + 10% cash -13% CC buyers premium + 6% sales tax + $10 paperwork fee & $5 mandatory trigger lock for non-FFLs..
I once joked to one of the auctioneers that they should sell beer. Who knows how high the bidding would go then!
